Try 5… Ways To Remove Make Up

By Bbeautylove @bbeautylove

I haven’t done a Try 5… post in forever so I thought I would get back on the horse and do one all about make up removers.

No matter how interesting in skincare you are, getting off make up is something we all have to do no matter how much make up we wear or how bold we wear it. There are hundreds of ways to remove the stuff so I thought I would show you five of the most common and tell you how they work and if they would be good for you.

makeupremovers

The Cleansing Oil – Skin Truth Optimise Cleansing Oil, £12.99

Cleansing oil’s can sound a little scary. Will it break me out? Will it make my skin greasy? Is it strong enough to remove tough make up? Surprisingly a cleansing oil is one of the best ways to remove make up on oily skins. They are often very gentle and soothing and don’t clog the pores or make your skin greasy. The also smell amazing and are very effective at what they do. Apply to a dry face and massage the skin to loosen dirt, grime and make up. Most cleansing oils cannot be used on the eyes (such as this one) so you may need to add a step. Then wet your palms and massage over the face creating a milky foam that will lift off any product. You can then increase the amount of water or use a face cloth to get every last bit of make up off the skin. Your face will feel smooth, soft and well cared for as oils never strip the skin or behave harshly so are perfect if you have sensitive skin.

The Micellar Water – L’Oreal Skin Perfection 3-in-1 Purifying Micellar Solution, £4.99

If you have heard of Bioderma you will have heard of Micellar Water. This type of make up remover is very popular with Make Up Artists and professionals as it acts as a remover, purifier and toner all in one plus it is quick and gentle on the skin. They are especially good on very sensitive skins as they don’t contain a lot of ingredients and are very light making them perfect for oily skins too. The secret of Micellar water lies in the balance between its extremely fine particles of oil and water. Invisible to the naked eye, the oil droplets form micelles that trap dirt and makeup residue found on the surface of the skin, which once removed leaves it thoroughly cleansed. The beauty of this type of remover is it can be used on the eyes and the face, works quickly and means cutting your routine in half. They are also great for refreshing your complexion in the morning. Skin is left soft, cleansed and clear without feeling tight or sore.

The Facial Cleansing Wipe – Nivea Daily Essentials Facial Cleansing Wipes, £2.99

These are not my favorite type of make up remover but they can be effective. These are great for travel and instantly refresh the face. Some are more concentrated than others, meaning you can get the majority of your make up off using one wipe. Others are more gentle and may work best as a pre-step to cleansing. If you don’t wear a lot of make up or are a teenager just starting to get into beauty products, these would be ideal for you. There are plenty of variations available from ones for dry skin to very sensitive skin. They feel very cooling on the skin and although they don’t leave it feeling as clean as other removers, they are great at removing eye make up.

The Cleansing Milk – Soap & Glory Peaches and Clean 4-in-1 Wash Off Deep Cleansing Milk, £7.00

Similar to a cleansing oil, cleansing milks are thicker, richer and more moisturising so are great for dry skin. This one from Soap & Glory is a little lighter so can be used on all skin types and it is great at really unclogging pores and giving skin a breath of fresh air. Massage over wet or dry skin and rinse off with water. For an even deeper clean, use a muslin cloth to gently exfoliate the skin. Your make up will literally melt away, but as with cleansing oils not all of these products can be used on the eyes, so again you may need to add an extra step to your routine. Skin feels fresh, clean and thoroughly cleansed. This one from S&G also smells amazing and leaves the skin feeling super soft.

The Cleansing Lotion – Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing Cleansing Lotion, £2.99

This is one of my favorite ways to remove make up as it is just so quick and effective. Cleansing lotions are a lot like Micellar Water’s in the way that they completely cut down on time and effort when it comes to removing your make up. They are a light lotion that can be used on the face and eyes to dissolve and melt away make up in a flash. This one from Garnier is the best I have used and it is so gentle on the skin it can be used on all skin types. Like the Micellar Water, just soak a cotton pad in the product and wipe away the day. For heavy eye make up I suggest pushing it over the eye and holding it there for a few seconds for it to really work before wiping your make up away. These are perfect if you want something quick but that will thoroughly cleanse your face. Skin feels fresh, clean and smooth.

I hope you enjoyed this post and please let me know what your preferred method of make up removal is in the comments.
