In February, we reported that True Blood might be filming in Chino Hills, CA for a setting of a political reception. Well, unfortunately Fangbanger Productions is going to have to look for another place to film because now that plan is dead and probably won’t be resurrected.
Producers wanted to use the lobby of City Hall for three days as a stand-in for, no kidding, the George W. Bush Presidential Library, for a scene involving a political reception that turns into blood-letting.
This idea proved controversial in Chino Hills, where some leaders and religious types wanted to quash the fun for any locals who might have thought it would be cool to spot Chino Hills on a TV series for a change instead of Ontario’s airport or Pomona.
“Sorry Chino Hills True Blood fans. True Blood has pulled out of considering Chino Hills as a location site for the show,” Councilman Peter Rogers wrote on his Facebook page.
The official explanation is that Chino Hills was determined to be too far away from L.A. per union rules to avoid paying the cast and crew a larger stipend. Well, it looks like vampires are still fighting persecution.
The vampire proposal came before the City Council last month and the vote was 4-1 to negotiate terms.
Art Bennett was the dissenter, telling the Chino Champion newspaper, “I am by no means a prude, but I don’t see this as a wholesome product.”
Evidently only wholesome products are allowed into Chino Hills. Conduct yourself accordingly.
I would have suggested that foes lace the City Hall lobby with garlic to ward off the TV vampires, but that won’t be necessary now. They could have put up crosses too, but maybe the giant “In God We Trust” motto in the Council Chambers would have sufficed.
Rogers noted on Facebook that “the pro or con city council discussion of allowing the filming of the show at city hall,” scheduled for last Tuesday, would not take place.
Among the comments, most of which were supportive of the filming, Rogers’ wife Merry had the best line: “It’s a bloody shame.”
