Travelling Sophie: Leuven Part 5!

By Sophies Foodie

I know now that you all loved reading my traveling Sophie: Leuven part 1, 2, 3, 4 & now, there is a part 5,…ooh yes!

The last time, I went there to visit my favorite all vegan shop Shavt, I ate lunch in one of my favorite world cafés, called Coop. Wereldcafé.coop, Joris Helleputteplein 2, 3000 Leuven. It is located at a quiet public square, 1 street away from the busy Parijsstraat, shopping street. Open? Tuesday till Saturday:11AM-11PM/Monday & Sunday: closed!

Kitchen is open from 12 AM till 2 PM & from 5.30 PM till 8 PM.

It looks great from the outside, right?

This cool world café is not just a café, it is a smaller bistro. All the foods they serve here are 80% organic + fair-trade + local! Not all the beverages are organic though. Every day, they serve lunch & dinner.  You have to order & pay at the counter. They have a big black board, where they note down with chalk what there is on the menu. There are several vegetarian dishes on their menu. Every time, I come here, I eat vegetarian. I began with this:

Let’s see what you think of the interior?

Then, I saw what was on the blackboard & ordered this:

These were 2 warmed tortilla wraps & a lovely mixed crunchy cabbage, carrot, cucumber salad with a lovely tangy yoghurt dressing, home-made guacamole, shredded cheese & a hot spiced tomato sauce with veggies & tofu bits in it. It was lovely & enough for me! It costed me : 11€. It was worth it! Everything was so fresh, organic & very delicious too. It was all good quality! The beer costed me: 1.8€. It looks great, right?

MMM!

MMM!

To end my lunch, I ordered a simple fennel herb tea & it was served with an organic speculoos. Yummm! The tea costed me: 2 €.

An old hospital besides the Predikheren church!

An old hospital besides the Predikheren church, that now is owned by CC30, a cultural center in Leuven!

The old gothic Predikheren church, that is also the eldest in our country, is now owned by 30CC, a cultural center in Leuven, situated at the side of this church. You will find this church at Onze-Lieve-Vrouwen straat. The interior of the church is now used for plays, exhibitions, dance, etc.  It can hold 360 seats! Ooh yeah! So, you can’t go to church there anymore! Here is their website: http://www.30cc.be

Domus, an Inn or Taverne, Tiensestraat 8, 3000 Leuven. This restaurant or tavern is an institute in Leuven & far beyond! They also have a home brewery that you can visit when it is tourist season. You can see details on their website. See link above! When I was a child & visited Leuven with my parents, we would come here & have a spaghetti or steak with fries. The service is always great, excellent, it is crowded & busy & they sell good food, great drinks with a lot of beers, etc. The brewery produces its own beer, 2 to 3 types. Each year, they also sell a seasonal beer. They have many Gluten-free & vegetarian dishes on their menu!! The resto is very big & long. The interior is darker wood & not so cosy at all.
