TRAVEL: Almada, Portugal

By Jsleigh14 @jsleigh14

Almada is an excellent day trip location that’s just a short ferry ride from Lisbon across the Tagos river. This small city is mainly residential, making it a great place for a traveller to absorb in the culture of ordinary Portuguese people. With its delicious food and scenic views, Almada is an interesting spot to explore that’s away from the city crowds and smog.

The Cristo-Rei is a giant statue of Christ that stands at the peak of Almada. This statue was erected during 1959 to represent the gratitude of the Portuguese from being spared the effects of World War II. Ever since, this statue of Christ overlooks Lisbon and the Tagos River with its open arms.
