From a bleak bus ride through Glasgow at midnight, to a trans - Californian road trip, from summer in Dubrovnik and finding peace in a Spanish paradise, to a bumpy bus ride to Kampala and the Paris Metro at night... TRAVEL, the third of the Collections of Poetry and Prose book series, features 97 contributions from 46 writers and poets around the world, all writing in their own unique, wonderful and occasionally quirky way about their travels and experiences travelling.
From rural towns and villages in Africa, Asia and India, and the tiny islands of Bahrain and Shetland, to the bustling metropolises of Europe, the Americas and Australasia, with many of the contributions reflecting the diverse backgrounds and cultures of the writers, TRAVEL explores the world and its people and culture in an undeniably unique and fascinating way.
Compiled by Robin Barratt, with... From Traveling by Amanda Earthwren
Many travel to find themselves without realising that each moment is a journey, each thought, everything we say and do.
WHAT I THOUGHTI really enjoyed TRAVEL: A Collection of Poetry and Prose on Travels and Travelling. Like the publisher's last collection, LOVE: A Collection of Poetry and Prose on Love and Being in Love, the diversity of subject and style is impressive. I must admit I enjoyed the poems in TRAVEL a bit more than the prose but that's simply because I get more pleasure out of reading poetry than prose and doesn't reflect the quality of the overall content of this collection. This collection of offers enjoyable poetry and prose about every possible aspect of travelling ranging from tourists impressions of their worst/best trips, locations all over the world, prose that tries to get to the root of why some people are restless and travel a lot, poems and stories with a touch of humour, surprise and even sorrow. TRAVEL: A Collection of Poetry and Prose on Travels and Travelling caters to a wide range of tastes and interests. My favourite pieces include Traveling by Amanda Earthwren, There Was A Time by Akwu Sunday Victor, Kishinev In The Snow by David Hollywood, Errol Flynn As A Young Man by John Stokes and Water-Buffalo With Concrete Freeway by John Stokes. I enjoyed many other pieces in this collection but these spoke to me a little bit more.
