Trash Treasure: Which 2016 Beauty Skincare Trends Will Last Into 2017?

2016 has been a bit of a , all things said. Even with the turmoil around it, however, 2016 has also been a year in which beauty fads have continued apace. This is a restless world and - sometimes - a much-needed distraction from the rest of the chaos going on around us. The world of beauty waits for no crisis, it just keeps going.

So which of these 2016 beauty trends are we going to carry with us into 2017? And which will be consigned to the vaults of history, along with using concealer on your lips (why was this ever a thing?) and tweezing your eyebrows into oblivion (ditto)?

#1 - Rainbow Highlighter

This was a thing because... because rainbows are pretty?

Admittedly, this was one of those trends that was everywhere online and in beauty magazines. There was a point in late 2016 when you couldn't open Instagram or without being deluged by images of color-spectrum friendly highlighter. But that seemed to be the only point to it. In most cases, it wasn't flattering outside of highly-styled beauty shots. How many of us ever saw someone using this in the wild?
Trash or Treasure? Trash. It looks nice for five minutes and then you realize what a terrible mistake you have made.

We've known for a long time that your skin type can vary across your face. Presumably, because life is never easy and is trying to make you cry. You can have dry cheeks and an oily T-zone, as punishment for things you did when you were 17. Probably.

In all seriousness, multi-masking is the kind of trend where you find yourself muttering: "why didn't we think of this sooner?". You decide which part of your face needs what type of help; where needs moisture, where needs blackhead removal etc. Then you shop online for Innisfree mask to suit one problem, then grab another for the other part of your face. One session with goo on your face that deals with multiple issues. Genius.

A late edition, but one we need to nip in the bud right now. With the recent revival of the eyebrows, it was only a matter of time until someone decided to mess with it. Now ombre eyebrows are a thing, and we should all weep and wonder what we did to deserve this.

Trash or Treasure? Trash. Immediately.

Before 2016, the vast majority of us of an evening went to battle with a cotton pad and makeup remover. We dragged it over our eyelids, fighting hard against the ravages of waterproof makeup in a quest to go to bed with a clean face. It was a rough time.

At the end of the year, however, we've embraced cleansing oils as part of a two-step cleanse. You layer the oil onto your face, leave it for five minutes and then wipe clean - no pulling or tugging at the skin required.

Trash or Treasure? Definitely treasure.
I wonder what 2017 will give to make us smile or recoil in horror?
