TRAI Asks Reliance To Stop Jio Summer Surprise Offer Immediately

Posted on the 06 April 2017 by Gadgetscanner @jdsoni7

Reliance Jio has had a dream debut of sorts. Jio Welcome Offer, New Year Offer and the most recently introduced Summer Surprise Offer ensured that the user base the company had acquired stayed long enough. Till now all the services from Reliance Jio were available for free and Reliance had extended the free period with additional complimentary benefits. These extra benefits, however, have been cut short due to TRAI’s new directive.

It would ideally mean that if you have already subscribed to Jio Prime and have recharged with Rs. 303 or higher denomination you can still enjoy the extended benefits that the Jio Summer Suprise offer gave, post 6th April Jio will not offer the 3 months complimentary benefits of JIO SUMMER SURPRISE.

What is Jio Summer Surprise Offer?

Under the Summer Surprise Offer, if a Jio user opted for Prime subscription and recharged of INR 303 or more, the complimentary services that were available to all Jio users prior to that date were extended by another 3 months. The option to upgrade to Prime was available till 15th April.

Why is Jio Summer Surprise Offer Stopped?

TRAI has asked Reliance Jio to withdraw the offer with immediate effect and Jio has confirmed that the offer will be withdrawn as soon as it is operationally possible. The decision by TRAI will give relief to rivals such as Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea Cellular. These companies were facing the maximum impact of back to back complimentary offers.

What if I have already opted for Prime Membership under Summer Surprise Offer ?

As per Reliance Jio, users who signed up for the offer by making a first-time recharge will, however, continue to get complimentary benefits.

“All customers who have subscribed to Jio Summer Surprise offer prior to its discontinuation will remain eligible for the offer,” Jio said.

Reliance Jio had on March 31 extended the deadline for subscribing to Jio Prime service till April 15, 2017. The move came as a surprise as Jio was expected to withdraw Jio Prime subscriptions from April 1
