Top Places to Visit in Goa: Check out the Best Beach, Church and Fort

By Dinesh Singh @travellerpath

Goa is right there at the top of the most popular and the most visited holiday destinations in India. When it comes to beaches, Goa clearly steers way ahead of its rivals and makes a unrivaled case for itself for the tag of India’s beach capital. Besides, the state has a battery of forts, churches and wildlife parks in addition to its ensemble of lakes and waterfalls.

If you are not very wealthy, then Goa can still be your paradise. It is not that the attractions in this state are all expensive. Once you have managed your accommodation, everything else can be easily negotiated. The beaches, for instance, do not cost you anything, unless you opt for water sports. Even the water sports can be haggled at times. Still, it is best to travel to the state during the off season when the prices of all the games would be relatively low.

Though, it is tough to narrow down the list, here are some of the more recommended places to visit in Goa:

Anjuna Beach: If you were given a choice to visit just one beach (out of the nearly 40 Goa beaches), then Anjuna should be the one you should select. It is not only the most popular beach with a very lively and animated crowd, but it is also a commercial corner with its Wednesday Flea Market clearly being its USP.

Basilica of Bom Jesus: Again, you will be spoilt for churches which Goa can produce in abundance, but if you have to choose just one church, then do walk over to the Old Goa’s Basilica of Bom Jesus. With its medieval look and all-enveloping serenity, it definitely is a fascinating place.

Dudhsagar Falls: Dudhsagar Falls should be checked if you happen to be a nature love. It is easily one of the most loved waterfalls of the country.

Ingo’s Night Market: If you like shopping or eating, then Ingo’s Night Bazaar would be one of your favorite places to visit in Goa. You would love its stalls, its food, and that ambience!

Aguada Fort: Aguada Fort, the most popular fort of Goa, stands unabashed overlooking the Arabian Sea at the Aguada Beach. A must-visit for obvious reason!

Old Goa is another place you can explore without the need to spend much. There is a classic vintage charm to this corner which is full of heritage buildings and churches. The Basilica of Bom Jesus is an extremely beautiful church and is visited by locals and foreigners with equal fervor. The entry to this church is free, though you may have to spend on traveling to reach the church.

Goa is a small state but you will have to hire a car or cab to move around. You can also take buses which ply between most of the popular places.

Amongst the budget tourist places in Goa, the name of Panjim also makes itself count. It is a booming town and has some manmade and natural attractions. It is also the commercial capital of the state and has a number of cheap hotels where you can stay. In addition, it has quite a few spa parlors where you can find some physical relaxation.

Overall, a Goa trip is special and not something which can be forgotten in a rush, even if you develop Alzheimer’s.
