Top 5 Picks for Entwined in the Valley (13 – 15 November)

By Foodie Cravings @foodiecravings

My writer Ros has compiled her Top 5 Picks for Entwined in Valley which is on this weekend (13 – 15 November) and celebrates the beautiful Swan Valley region.

The combination of food, wine and the weekend guarantees Entwined in the Valley to be an a fun event and I’ll take any excuse to head out to the beautiful Swan Valley region. Where else can you get home grown wine, chocolate and cheese right at your doorstep?

Entwined in the Valley is the perfect reason to head out there to experience the best of what the Swan Valley region has to offer. This year the program has been extended to a full weekend of events bursting with food, wine, fashion, music and art.

These are my top 5 picks for this year’s Entwined in the Valley…

1. Entwined Degustation Dinner

The highlight of the weekend for me would be the Humane Food Event, Entwined in the Valley Degustation Dinner at the beautiful Mandoon Estate.

Having dined at Aria in Sydney a few years ago, I know that celebrity chef and TV personality Matt Moran will no doubt serve up culinary delights using the Swan Valley’s best produce of free-range, organic, local food. Paired with stellar wines from the area, I will be in degustation heaven. I’ve been to several restaurants that offer degustation; Amuse and Jacksons, so I know this will be up there with the best of them.  Matt Moran will be joined by WA chefs Kiren Mainwaring from Co-op Dining and Hadleigh Troy of Restaurant Amusé. The evening will be MC’d by Anna Gare who I’m familiar with from Jr. Masterchef.

Matt has explained that he designed the Entwined Degustation Menu by choosing a hero ingredient to showcase some of the great produce in and around the Swan Valley region. In this case Wagyu beef will be the highlight and the dessert will be goat’s curd pannacotta.

Date: Sunday 15 November @ 5pm Cost: $250 per person or $220 per person for tables ten Bookings: Online via www.ticketek.com.au Venue: Mandoon Estate, 10 Harris Road, Caversham 2. Ribs and Red in the Shed  Kicking off the weekend on the Friday is Ribs and Red in the Shed, which is my second pick of things to do at Entwined in the Valley. Who can resist sticky, melt in your mouth ribs that fall off the bone? I’m drooling already just thinking about it. The thought of finishing off the working week by taking a short drive to the Swan Valley and enjoying food, wine and the balmy outdoors, I can’t think of a better way to spend Friday evening. For $35 to enter the venue, have a meal and be entertained with a live DJ, I would say that’s money well spent. Date: Friday 13 November @ 6pm – 9pm Cost: $35 per person (wines to be purchased separately on the night) Bookings: Online via www.lancasterwines.com.au Venue: Lancaster Wines, 5228 West Swan Road, West Swan

3. High Tea at Taylors Art and Coffee House

High tea. Those two words evoke images of delicate China cups and saucers and an indulgence of finely cut sandwiches, scones and savouries. I love high tea and have sought out some of the favourites in Perth; Rochelle Adonis in Mt Lawley, the Sassy Cookie in Victoria Park and the Duxton in town.

This afternoon event sounds delightful with it being held at a family run café with much of the food being sourced from the premises. I love the decadence of high tea and all it entails so for $40 per person, this is great value. The café is also an art house so I’m interested to see what is on offer with artwork produced by the resident artist.

Date: Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th November @ 2pm Cost: $40 per person.  BYO wine/champagne, $2.50 corkage Bookings: Online via www.taylorscafe.com.au Venue: Taylors Art & Coffee House, 510 Great Northern Hwy, Middle Swan

4. Brewed Laughter

My forth event that I’ve bookmarked is Brewed Laughter to cap off my Saturday evening shenanigans. The price covers the laughs, beer and a tapas style dinner including wood fire pizza, samosa, curry puff, spring roll, chicken kebab, prawn twist, cold meats, cheeses, antipasto, garlic bread and wedges.

I love comedy and nothing is funnier than entertaining live performances from talented comedians. I figure it’s a nice end to a Saturday and something my husband will enjoy, especially after I’ve had him eating scones and sipping tea with me earlier in the day. Mike Goldstein headlines the evening and he comes with great credentials so I’ve got high hopes for the night.

Date: Saturday 14 November @ 7pm – 9pm Cost: $55 per person includes comedy and beer tasting show, generous tasting of 5 beers and a tapas style dinner Bookings: Online via www.vultureculture.com.au Venue: Ironbark Brewery, Valencia Complex, 55 Benara Road, Caversham

5. Unwined Sundowner

To cap off the festivities, what better way to wind down the weekend than with the Unwind Sundowner at the Cheese Barrel at Olive Farm Wines.

In between eating my way through an abundance of cakes and small bites throughout the day, and finishing the night off with tapas, I’m happy to indulge in a few mouthfuls of cheese and matching wine whilst listening to live music as the sun sets across the Swan Valley.

Date: Saturday 14th November @ 5.30pm – 7:30pm Cost: $50 per person Bookings: Online via [email protected] or 9296 4539 Venue: The Cheese Barrel at Olive Farm Wines, 920 Great Northern Hwy, Millendon

If you’re still on the hunt for activities over the weekend, Tame Impala are performing at the world class Belvoir Amphitheatre while Neil Diamond fronts the stunning surrounds at Sandalford Estate. Both are outstanding venues, which will no doubt showcase the talent of the artists.

Entwined in the Valley takes place from Friday 13 November and ends on Sunday 15 November. Get involved!

A bit about Ros Buckley (@hungerpangs_00)

I love socialising and eating so if I can combine the two, it’s a match made in heaven. Always like to try somewhere new but can’t beat eating Vietnamese or Japanese food at a local haunt. I’m excited to explore more of what Perth has to offer and will base my reviews on food, service and the atmosphere of a restaurant.

I absolutely love the Swan Valley and often take the scenic route through the region when heading to my in-laws who live in The Vines.
