Some artists work has a 3D effect that looks like it is literally coming out of the canvas. But then there are artists like Stephen Ball who creates 3D thread installations that really do come right off the canvas and beyond. These amazing geometric shapes and simulated forms and well worth seeing…

10 – Sharp Lines

Something that comes from these 3D thread art installations is how dangerous they look. Not in terms of real danger, but the sharp geometric lines do give you an element of risk of being cut even if it is just thread. Lets face it, a spiders web is made of silk, but try telling the fly it is not dangerous!

9 – Spray on

You can really see what the artist is doing with this simple but highly expressive image. The spray on art represents the street art element he loves as well as the geometric shapes of the thread, and that is what I love about this artists work, it is like 2 art worlds colliding together to create something entirely new and exciting.

8 – Testing Phase

Much like the next one you will see this is also one of the artists early work. What amazes me is the range in colours you get from the same coloured thread! Or maybe it is multiple coloured thread! Who knows, what I do know is that they are amazing and very creative indeed.

7 – Beginnings

This was one of the artists first steps into the 3D thread style and really shows how complex they can be.  It makes me wonder how long it takes him, all those tacks, all that thread, all that winding around and working out which one is next. It boggles my imagination.

6 – Still Connected

Much like you will see in image 4 there is a deep seeded political message here. Showing the tree connected to me indicates how it still should be, rather than how it was.

5 – Shout, shout, let it all out!

Do you know what is so amazing about these images? It is how accurate the artist is with the tacks that he wraps the thread around. I would have to be there with laser guided accuracy, but he seems to have the uncanny ability to just know where to place them.  The complexity and intricacy of this piece is simply stunning.

4 – Repair Job

I could be really wrong here, but I think this is showing the thread repairing the tree. Sadly I only have this image to go by but to me it is a rather emotion image of deforestation. But isn’t that what good art is all about? Seeing what you want to see? Well I thought so anyway.

3 – Long Shapes

What I liked about this image is if you look into the distance you will see just how many strands of thread this art piece takes. Given the amount of threads and the size of the art installation it really goes to show it takes incredible talent to do these.

2 – Fenced in

In this image you can really see why the artist chooses to work with this style. The depth of the thread really comes right out of the image even more so than 3D effects on flat paper. Plus the darker scene on this one really makes it look dark and mysterious.

Batman 3D Thread Art

1 – The Calling

It was this image that I first saw, and indeed got me interested in what else the artist had made. Sometimes you just need a small connection to an art form to fall in love with it both in shape and style. That is what happened here when I saw the Batman call done in stunning 3D thread.
