Too Much Pressure

poinsettia

So Big Daddy brought this huge poinsettia home last week and all I could think was, “OMG. Another living thing I have to keep alive.” I suck at plants, pets and people smaller than me. There are 4 males in my home including the dog. I don’t have time for a poinsettia. But really I only have to keep it alive till New Year’s Day right?

I say there are 4 males but Thing 1 only lives here during holidays and summer (College Kid). Thing 2 is a junior so only one more year till he flies the coup. Although he mentioned a “gap year” after he graduates. I was like wha? Gap year? Here? In my house? For a whole year? He was like yea mom, I could work for a year, maybe do some traveling and save up to pay for college. I think Thing 2 is just trying to push me over the edge. We’ll cross that bridge when we need too. On the plus side the local liquor store will have record sales during said gap year.

Then there’s the dog. Bailey. Black Lab who loves his mom. Also known as my favorite child. He never talks back but he’s getting in the habit of barking at me when he wants food or a piece of ice. or a treat. He literally barks from the couch till he sees me run to get him food. (That was a lie. You know I’m not running anywhere) Apparently he has trained me well. Bailey is also 14 years old. So he doesn’t want to get up except to eat and go to the bathroom. I feel the same way. And he has arthritis, chronic ear infections and some rare as hell skin allergy that makes him itchy, gross and leaves clumps of his hair everywhere when he has a flair up. But yet he is still my favorite child.

So when Big Daddy walked in with this huge (but gorgeous) poinsettia, you can understand why I panicked. Thing 2 had to literally pick up 50+ red leaves off the table before he could sit down to eat his pop-tart this morning. Because I haven’t made it to the store to buy “real” food for the fam.

So that’s it for today. I know it was a short little post but I have shit to do. I have so much laundry going that I could be here all day. I’m thinking of putting the poinsettia outside to get some fresh air and sunlight. With the dog. Is it poinsettia’s that are poisonous for dogs? I can’t remember..
