Toasty Warm on a Cold, Wet Day – Why Girl on the River is Kitted out in Quba

By Girlontheriver @girlontheriver

There’s a particular kind of cold that you only get from prolonged exposure to the wet – that chill that penetrates right through to the bones and settles for the rest of the day. After a full length outing on the river this Sunday, when the rain didn’t ease off even for a moment, I was soaked to the skin. Even coffee and cake in the club house did little to warm the cockles.

“At least I have a hot bath to look forward to”, I thought, putting in a call to Man on the Run to start the taps running. Sadly it wasn’t to be. I arrived home to discover that the Sons had used up all the hot water.

Which was when I remembered that waiting for me in a box was a hoodie that the kind people at Quba & Co. had sent me.

Now, Quba know a thing or two what it is to be cold and damp. Based in nautical Salcombe, you can practically taste the salt on their products. Their signature garments are jackets made from sailcloth – that’s from actual sails – and pretty fine they are, too. They also do a range of parkas, ski jackets, tops, accessories and, of course, hoodies.

The hoodie that Quba chose for me, when I told them I need something to throw on when I got off the water – the Liddel Graphic Hoodie – is a great big hug in a jumper. With supersoft lining it absolutely hit the spot after I’d peeled off layer after layer of wet lycra. Wrapped in my new top, cup of tea in hand, I was soon back to functioning temperature. And I’ve barely taken it off since (I’m wearing it right now, as the snow falls – again – outside the window). I love the contrasting color in the hood. I love the nautical design on the front. And most of all I love that I’m warm. Winter? Yeah, whatever.
