We’ve never really stopped loving the somber, earnest pop of Brooklyn’s Tica Douglas since her 2013 album, Summer Valentine. As a visual and auditory preview of her new album, Joey, Douglas has released an album trailer that perfectly pairs the titular track with isolating imagery and shots of the actual recording itself. While confronting the confusion of gender definition in a trickling melody brought to life by her lilting voice, Douglas can be seen, in jagged bits of reflective glass, playing the song in her childhood home in Maine. The sparse instrumentation of the track fills the void of the dark room and allows the listener to focus more closely on the details Douglas is artfully revealing. Douglas’ album, Joey, will be out on February 24th.
