There is a huge chance you've read or heard people say that the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (MMPR) is an important part of their childhood. Well, they are not lying. The American series which ran from 1993 to 1995 was a huge success.
In fact, it wasn't only popular in America but also in other countries like the Philippines. From the first episode, kids where already treated to an amazing adventure making it difficult to forget the series. So when the news broke about Lionsgate and Saban Brands' partnership, I got extremely excited.
I have seen several Super Sentai and Tokusatsu Series besides MMPR. If you check out both Japanese and American versions, you'll be very curious to know what Lionsgate and Saban has in store for all fans.

I'm going to be honest. The long-awaited and much-discussed big-screen Power Rangers is not a great film. BUT I did enjoy it. The way I see it Lionsgate and Saban wanted to please the first generation of fans and relate to the new ones.
There's nothing wrong with a little fan service - hearing the original theme song and seeing Amy Jo Johnson and Jason David Frank. The problem occurred with the ups and downs I felt while watching.
More Ups & Downs
Director Dean Israelite's Project Almanac is great. I think he also did a great job with the Power Rangers reboot visually; however, there were some more sad points besides the tone of his masterpiece. First on the line is Krispy Kreme.
Remember when Tony Stark sat in a doughnut hole? Well, keep the entire scene but change it to Krispy Kreme. I think that would be less annoying than the unsavory product placement we have in the movie. *But that does not change the fact the Krispy Kreme Doughnuts are delicious.
Second is Alpha 5. Ai yi yi... Ew! Another reason why kids love the MMPR is Alpha 5. He's friendly, funny and cool. So what happened there?
The good thing about this reboot though is the Rangers and the suit. If you refer to the American series, the chosen ones were quite ideal as in teenagers who get good grades and so on. In the 2017 version, we get the most realistic approach. We get five different kids, personalities and stories. It made the Power Rangers even more colorful removing the need for a new generation of Bulk & Skull.
Regarding the Morphin Time, I appreciate they added it in the last part. There are some episodes in Super Sentai Series wherein the Rangers can't morph. I feel this makes sense especially for the the 2017 version. Just because they were chosen doesn't mean they'll be good at everything instantly. They had to train and embrace the powers giving a more interesting revelation of their suit; not to mention, Zords.
Saban's Power Rangers may not be that great but they deserve a chance. The whole family will surely enjoy the visuals and action sequences.
