Thoughts on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and Vol. 2

James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) is all about nostalgia. The classic pop music, funny dialogues, thrilling action sequences topped with visual splendor was a huge hit. Whenever it was shown on cable, I can't stop watching it again. This only proves that the charm it has on the big screen remained.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 is indeed one of the best movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fast forward to 2017, the guardians continue their adventure.

Directed by James Gunn

Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, Marvel Studios' "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill's true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand.

After the first volume, fans have been commenting and writing about their theories on Peter Quill's father based on the clues in the movie.

  • According to Peter's mother, his father is an angel as in with pure lights and all.
  • Yondu, the leader of the Ravagers (and part of the original Guardians of the Galaxy) was hired to pick-up and deliver Peter to his father who Yondu calls a "jackass". Instead of delivering Peter, Yondu raised and kept the boy.
  • Irani Rael and Corpsman Rhomann Dey of Xandar explains to Peter that there was an anomaly in his nervous system. Irani Rael says that he is half Terran. While his mother was of earth, his father ancient. Something they have never seen before.

With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, all our questions were answered. Ego, the planet is Peter Quill's father. I'm not going to explain what happened in the movie since it was just released. But I can tell you that the charm that grabbed our hearts from the first film is gone. And that is not a bad thing.

Really, it isn't! While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 gave us a fresh and fun concept, Vol. 2 gave us more than classic pop music, funny dialogues and thrilling action sequences. It's also about the character's issues and development.

Do you still remember Vol. 1's intro? Earth 1988. A young Peter Quill crying over his mother's death. In Vol. 2, the intro was so colorful and fun leading to a sad but touching end. For me, this style is good. It's also worth mentioning that James Gunn gave us an intense visual splendor with unicorns and HOLO (check out Simply Nailogical on YouTube to learn about HOLO).

Following the release of Doctor Strange where we were introduced to the unseen world by the Ancient One and learning about the mystic arts and unbelievable possibilities, Vol. 2 proved that this is true and that the galaxy is bigger than we think. Indeed, the MCU is gearing up and preparing us for Infinity War. Everything is coming together.

Don't miss Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2! Still in theaters.

Happy watching!
