Last week, while in India, it was a pleasant surprise to see that so many of the daily national newspapers had full page ads on Page One.  The reason I say 'pleasant" is because, in the current state of printed newspaper advertising globally, it is a sign of optimism to see that some products still bank on a good display ad in print.

This weekend, while passing through Germany, here it was again, this time with the national daily, Die Welt, an Axel Springer product.  Mercedes Benz bought a four page glossy, shiny and luxurious wrap around ad.  Then one opened up the newspaper to find the front page.

By the way, for its weekend edition, this Die Welt had a front page feature that I enjoyed: People of the Week.  Quick summaries of four newsmakers of note, a feature that I am sure readers appreciated.

I hope to see more wrap around ads in US newspapers in the months to come! That would be nice.
