Thomas Cook – what it means for your honeymoon

If you’ve booked your honeymoon with Thomas Cook then understandably you’re likely to be a little concerned about the company’s current financial situation. The good news is that if you’ve booked a package with Thomas Cook then your money will be protected by ATOL‘s protection scheme if they go bust – the bad news in that situation is that you’ll have to book your honeymoon elsewhere, and if you’ve got a gift list with them that hasn’t yet gone towards your honeymoon then you could potentially lose your vouchers. If that is your situation, the best thing to do right now would be to ask Thomas Cook to issue the vouchers you’ve accumulated so far, which you should pay into your holiday no – as only the money you’ve actually paid is safeguarded, this would help protect your guests’ contributions if the worst does happen.

There’s not a huge amount that can be done at the moment with the situation as it is, so the best advice I can offer you is to just make sure you know where you stand if they do go bust, and keep an eye on the news so that if it does happen you can act quickly to rescue your booked trip. ATOL are an excellent source of advice, and are there to help you in situations like this, so do keep an eye on their website. I’d also recommend checking out this question and answer session on the Guardian’s website, which might help answer any questions you have about the situation. And of course, feel free to drop me a line if you need a bit of advice or need to find another tour operator to book your honeymoon with.
