This Week In Travel And Health

By Healthytravelblog @healthytravel1

Phew! Disaster in the sky averted. Now, let’s focus on some of the positives of air travel.

Other than the near-miss at Reagan National, the interwebs this week seemed to focus on the luxurious upside of travel. At the Wall Street Journal, Scott McCartney spoke with corporate travel managers to get their inside secrets. He offers 10 tips on how to travel like the elite; there’s some really good advice here on planning your trip and saving money.

And if it’s luxury you’re after, you’ll want to fly in the new seats Lufthansa just introduced. The airline spent five years designing the new V-shaped business class seats. Fast Company offers the story behind the design, as well as a slide show.

As we’ve written before, travel is often about the food. So, what is the cuisine that travelers like best? According to a new survey by Hotels.com, it’s still Italian and French, but Japanese cuisine is becoming more popular. Interestingly, the survey shows that the most popular destinations are the ones with the best – or at least the most popular – food.

Working off those delicious calories isn’t always easy when you’re traveling. But hotels and airports are making efforts to help you squeeze in a workout. The New York Times’ Stephanie Rosenbloom runs down some of the top options for weekend warriors looking to break a sweat

If you’re looking for a party rather than a jog, head to Vancouver International, where they’ve started “Take Off Fridays.” Jaunted has the details on this airport happy hour on the tarmac.

At CNN, Katia Hetter explores a conundrum I’ve often contemplated – is it better to focus on your travel experience, or on photographing that experience? And are the two mutually exclusive?  With the explosion of visually-oriented social media, Hetter explores the ever-increasing pull to instantly share photos of your getaway.

Of course, Paris and Rome and London are must-see cities when visiting Europe. But they are far from the entire European experience. GQ takes a look at Europe’s “second cities” – the underrated destinations that are very much worth your while.

And since we’ve mired in the hottest summer in recent memory, let’s finish up with a swim. At Concierge.com, they take a look at the world’s five greatest natural swimming holes – from limestone pools in Italy to an ancient site of Mayan sacrifices to geothermal pools in Iceland.

Come on in – the water’s fine!
