According to eLanguages, the Chinese language was originally spoken by the Han Chinese and is spoken by about one-fifth of the total population of Earth. It is considered to be one of the two Sino-Tibetan languages. When you decide to learn Chinese, you should understand that it has also had at least six to twelve regional dialects, including the famous Mandarin, Cantonese, and also the Min. But, if you really want to go for the standard, the language has what it called Standard Mandarin. This Standard Mandarin is the official language of China, including Taiwan. This language is also one of the six languages used at the United Nations.

In order for you not to get confused with the language’s variations, though it is not necessary to learn it all at once, you should understand that its variations of dialects are scattering on the face of the earth particularly those that are greatly influenced by the Chinese regime.

As for Cantonese, places like Hong Kong and Macau utter this kind of dialect. Native speakers of any Chinese dialect are referred to as sinophones. Other regional dialects that are honestly having not been undergoing rigid studies are the Danzhou, Xianghua, and Shaozhu Tuhua. Another variation is the language spoken by the Dungan people similar to Mandarin. Unfortunately, this idiom is written using the Cyrillic alphabet; therefore it is not considered as a true Chinese dialect.
