FACT: All over Wales people will be celebrating this day drinking alcohol all day, but Saint David himself abstained from drinking and advised others to do the same!

FACT: Here is a strange one for you today Mickey and Minnie will turn Welsh and celebrate St David’s day at Disneyland Paris because due to an agreement with the European Union they have to!

FACT: All over Wales we will be eating a Welsh stew called Cawl which containing lamb and leeks, is traditionally consumed by everyone only on St. David’s Day. (But I like to have it at least once a month.)

FACT: While all over the UK local councils are cutting their budget, in many areas of north Wales the Saint David’s Day annual parades have seen their budgets increased despite it being cut from other more emergency services!

FACT: Every year parades are held all over Wales to commemorate Saint David day, but the largest of all of them is in Cardiff and is formally attended by either the British Monarch or the Prince of Wales!

FACT: Saint David’s Day is not a national holiday anywhere other than Wales in the United Kingdom, but strangely it is celebrated by several states in the United States of America!

FACT: In the 18th century a custom had arisen of confectioners producing “taffies” which were gingerbread figures baked in the shape of a Saint David riding a goat! And that is why people often call people from Wales “Taffs”

FACT: It was not until late in the 18th century though that St David’s Day was declared a national day of celebration in Wales, until then it was just a normal day.

FACT: St David’s Day falls every year on the 1st of March and is the date patron saint of Wales, St. David died in 589!
