The Who, What and Wear of the AMA’s

By Jewelrygal @1928jewelry

In the true blue American spirit of Thanksgiving it was fun to kick off the week with the American Music Awards this past Sunday night. There were performances by a star-studded lineup that included everyone from Jennifer Lopez (my favorite act of the night!) to Katy Perry. Some of Hollywood’s hottest A-lister’s were there to present as well, looking chic as could be. And most importantly, the evening was just as big of a win for fashion as it was for those artists who took home the AMA trophies!

Like most awards shows, I must admit the main reason I tune in to watch is to see the good, the bad and the fabulous come down the red carpet. The AMA’s especially provide for plenty of fashion to critique because of all of the “costume changes” celebrities make for their red carpet entrances, performances and celebratory after parties. There were definitely some trends that dominated the night and some looks that were so divine that they stood apart from the rest. So let’s take a look at who wore what!

Taylor Swift was the big winner of the AMA’s this year! The 21 year-old took home the award for Artist of the Year and we give her the award for best dressed too! Ms. Swift looked picture perfect in her champagne colored Reem Acra sequined gown and sleek side pony tail. It’s glamorous, youthful and totally Taylor! And you know how much we love a good green earring!

You can never go wrong with an LBD! Audrina Patridge (left) and Ellie Goulding (right) showed us some super chic little black dresses with cutout details that were event appropriate and still had that “wow” factor. As one of the red carpet correspondents of the evening, Audrina rocked a peek-a-boo LBD that she designed with her stylist, Joey Tierney. We adore everything about her look from her hair and makeup to those sky-high gold Versace platforms! British singer-songwriter, Ellie Goulding, looked equally as flawless in her Christopher Kane dress and Christian Louboutin Mary-Janes.

Both Heidi Klum and Jenny McCarthy came to the AMA’s dressed to impress and actually had some of my favorite looks of the night! The cupcake style skirts of their dresses were a welcome surprise in a crowd of gowns and skin tight mini’s.  The supermodel wore a laser-cut silver Giles Deacon dress that I am still drooling over! Ms. McCarthy was one of the only celebs wearing some color Sunday night in her sweet as can be Victoria Beckham dress. The soft curl in her hair and bright red lips add feminine allure and her edgy black ankle booties balance the look out perfectly.

JLO before and afterThe Who, What and Wear of the AMAs
Jennifer Lopez always manages to get the perfect balance of sexy and chic with her red carpet ensembles and the 2011 AMA’s were no exception. J. Lo showed up to the awards in a stunning Zuhair Murad black beaded couture gown that was the perfect choice for the Favorite Latin Artist winner. Jenny celebrated her award win and show-stopping performance at her own after party wearing a glittering Emilio Pucci mini dress and silver Jimmy Choo pumps. Both of these numbers show off how versatile yet signature Lopez’s style truly is.

And last but certainly not least is the other big winner of the night, Nicki Minaj. Beating out two of the biggest names in the entire music industry (Kanye West and Lil Wayne) for both Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Album, Nicki proved some serious girl power! Known for her quirky sense of style, Ms. Minaj rocked some bubblegum pink curls and surprised us with a gown that was a bit more polished than her usual avant-garde attire. The hip-hop star wowed in an Oscar de la Renta ballgown with a full metallic green skirt and black lace corset top. Even her subtle 90′s style accessories fit the ensemble just perfectly!

So now you have the who, what, wear of the American Music Awards. Who made your best dress list?
