The Way to My Heart is Through My Stomach

By Brittparsons @brittnparsons

I recently posted on Facebook: “The best thing about New York City isn't Broadway, the skyscrapers, the parks, or the museums...it's the food.” God, the food in New York City. I love trying new food, but I haven’t always had an opportunity to do so. Growing up in West Virginia, I had a limited number of options, but now….Italian, Thai, Chinese, Venezuelan, Israeli. There’s so much to choose from, I don’t even know where to begin. And I can order online and have it delivered. WHAT?! GrubHub has become my best friend and my worst enemy (it’s super convenient, but I also spend way too much money on takeout). When I'm not ordering in, I'm out trying new restaurants...even though I should be saving money and cooking at home.

My favorite NYC restaurants (so far):

Retro Pizza – The first time I came to New York City, I knew I had to have a slice of pizza. You can find decent pizza just about anywhere, but my personal favorite (so far) is Retro Pizza in Astoria. You can see it briefly in my first vlog.

Shake Shack – of course. You haven’t lived until you’ve eaten there.

Bar Bolonat – I had never had Israeli food before eating there. Luckily, one of my friends had been to Israel and helped us order, and they had a ton of vegetarian options.

Caracas – Again, a new cuisine for me: arepas. I’ve been to the Rockaway and East Village locations and both are fantastic, but I would recommend Rockaway because, you know, beach. (You can see that one in vlog number 2!)

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que – I usually avoid barbecue joints because of the whole meat thing, but they had an amazing portobello sandwich. And the fried green tomatoes are a must.

Harlem Public – Fortunately, it’s within walking distance from my apartment. Unfortunately, it’s usually super busy. You might have to stand or wait a few minutes for a table, but it's totally worth it. Make sure you order the fried pickles.

I’m sure I will be adding to the list later, so stay tuned for more.
