The Things I Do, Everyday

By Winyeemichelle
Whilst I absolutely love adventures and travel and the spontaneity of everyday life, at the crux of things, I’m a creature of habit. I relish in pottering around in some semblance of a routine and I find comfort in sentimental trinkets and being surrounded by the same people day to day. And when it comes down to it, there’s a lot that features in all of our days that we do, everyday. Familiarity and routine can breed both good and bad: good in that I find I know what to expect and can put my mind at ease having checked off a mini list for myself, and bad in that I can often get stuck in my ways, become stubborn and unrelenting in my routine.
Here are some of the things I do, everyday.

Write a to-do list

It’s such a blogging cliche that to-do lists rule the roost but I honestly couldn’t function without following one every day. I used to Tweet a brief rundown of my plans each day and nowadays I still do that… only it’s on a notepad that follows me around all day. On it I’ll include my work plans, blog plans and errands, as well as simple things like ‘make lunch’ or ‘buy milk’, I just find it helps me to keep focused and actually get things done, instead of getting right into it and darting aimlessly from one task to the other and getting distracted in between. The only days that I don’t really stick to this is at the weekend because ain’t nobody got time for that.

Schedule tomorrow’s Tweets

If I’ve written a blog post, I like to take a little time to schedule in a couple of Tweets to promote it. I don’t stick to this religiously and I’m by far the worse I’ve ever been in terms of blog organisation but I always like to make an effort, if I can. I tend to post 3-4 to support my blog posts and then keep a record of the blog post link for further sharing on Facebook, Instagram or to report back to PR peeps with!

Read a little

One of my favorite pastimes is reading, whether that’s a book, magazine, online magazine or other form. Even 15 minutes out of my day spent reading is joyful and I hand on heart feel it is really beneficial to my writing, keeping the creative juices flowing. It’s SO rewarding and inspiring to read something that isn’t a blog post at least once a day. No shade.

Comment on 5 blogs, minimum

Just before I began writing Daisybutter, I was an avid blog reader and commenter. I still truly believe that comments are what keeps the community going/together, and so I like to leave at least 5 comments (or emails or Tweets!) a day, letting fellow bloggers know that I appreciate what they’re doing.

Drink coffee

There’s no two ways about this one: I’m powered by that sweet, sweet brown nectar. (Disclaimer: I don’t actually like sugary coffees or teas!)

Take Milo on a walk

Every single day, Milo and I hang out for at least an hour in the Great Outdoors. He loves a good run around and an amble by the lake and I relish the chance to get out and about when so much of my day is spent at a desk. I read somewhere that around 60% of the UK don’t get even 10 minutes of brisk walking in in a day which just baffles me! Plus I really enjoy meeting other dogs - and their owners…! - on pup walks.

Respond to my emails

Without fail, I like to be on top of my emails. My blog one tends to be a little neglected, averaging responses once a week, but my work one is always maintained at Inbox (0). Keeping on top of your correspondence seems to be a dated thing nowadays, but it’s only to polite to give a reply, right?

Give my bedroom a mini tidy

When I wake up, my bedroom gets a mini tidy and shuffle. Soft furnishings put back in place, my bed made, trinkets rearranged and outfit selected. Whilst I actually don’t spend *that* much time in my room, I do like to potter around and keep it looking cute and fresh.

Moisturise!

Always, always cleanse and moisturise.

Jot down working blog post titles

Perhaps it’s the writer in me but I seem to have blog post titles coming out of my ears! I have an online list as well as one in my notebook where titles get jotted down and it just keeps getting longer and longer. That’s what she said. But really, taking 5 minutes out to note down ideas or inspiration for upcoming blog posts will set you in good stead for keeping inspired towards the blogging malarkey.
