Sunday night, Summer Cannibals and The Thermals played an energy-packed show at Bowery Ballroom, beginning with a charismatic opening performance from Slothrust. The forceful trio will always leave you wanting more, as Leah Wellbaum’s catchy songwriting and a strong rhythm section almost always leave their songs stuck in your head. Be sure to check them out at Mercury Lounge on May 31.

Summer Cannibals, who are currently on tour with the headliner, The Thermals, were the next band up. Hailing from Portland, they easily kept up the momentum of the night. Lead singer Jessica Boudreaux gave it her all during the performance, quickly working the crowd into a frenzy. Their Sophomore LP Show Us Your Mind is currently out now on New Moss Records.

The Thermals played an action packed set with a mix of new and old crowd pleasers that had everyone dancing the night away. Their new album, We Disappear, was released on March 25 via Saddle Creek records. “Hey You” and “My Heart Went Cold” off of the new album had the packed Bowery Ballroom audience singing along. Not to mention, both the frontman and drummer took turns crowd surfing — the obvious mark of a great show. You can also catch them live Thursday, April 28 at Market Hotel.
