I can still remember these words uttered almost twelve years ago were enough for you to judge the importance and impact of these words on me and my life. His facial expressions and moist eyes are still fresh in my memory. His eyes conveyed his entire story to me in a second. I don't know what others present in that class felt at that time, perhaps some have laughed at his emotions but those emotions touched my heart which inscribed these words for always.
I am talking about my Math teacher of 11th and 12th class Mr. Pathak. He was from Bihar an upper cast who was affected by V.P.Singh's government agreeing and applying of Mandal Commission report in 1989-90. The Mandal Commission was formed to analyze social differences in society which effected in increase of quota of reservation for SC, ST and OBC. Bihar being the initiator of Mandal movement experienced most discrimination on caste lines resulted in neglecting of upper caste students. Mr Pathak being from the upper caste was caught in this politics which lead him to leave his village and state to study in Delhi.
He usually told us the stories of his village school which was devoid of any modern facilities. He was impressed by his math teacher who was devoted to his students even in such a poor condition. He wanted to be like him and teach his village students. The sentence I mentioned above was showing his pain of leaving his native place and his struggle after enforcement of Mandal commission. At that time I was not much aware of Mandal-Kamandal politics, neither I understood his mention of it in the class room, I was just touched by his emotions and experienced his pain of struggle. I think he was driven by his pain of leaving his native place which helped him performing strong in the big city.
This became the reason of pursuing my higher education through correspondence than regular college. Although I secured marks enough to get admission in a good reputed college but my passion was and is writing which I thought I could pursue without a regular college degree so I left my seat for someone more deserving who was nurturing dreams like my teacher from Bihar to teach his people and make an impact on their life.
I never met Mr Pathak after school but two years with him in school realized me that he was #madeofgreat. He crossed all economical, political and social hurdles to become a teacher of a reputed school which was looking impossible at one point of time in his life. Perhaps one day he would fulfill his dream to open a school in his native village to teach his people. He was a good teacher whom I remembered even today. I don't know why I never met him again but now I think it’s time to have a rendezvous with him.
