The Story Behind the Name

By Patientgardener @patientgardener

The Story Behind the NameThere I was with mental tumble weed wondering what I could post about.  There was no inspiration when I looked outside, nothing but howling weed and heavy rain.  Then out of the blue I read Anna’s latest post on her blog, Green Tapestry – The Story Behind the Name.  Her post was in response to a call from Monica at Garden Faerie’s Musings for bloggers to reveal the reasons behind their blog names.

To some people my blog  name is amusing as they don’t think it suits my personality at all.  I tell them its an aspirational name.  However the real story behind the name is that when I was pondering what to call my blog I had just finished reading The Constant Gardener by John le Carre and I think this was in my subconscious.  I didn’t want to use The Constant Gardener due to the links to the book so I pondered an appropriate alternative adjective.  I thought about my garden and how due to my tight budget I have to buy plants small and wait patiently for them to fill out the space, how I enjoyed growing plants from seed and was happy to wait patiently for things to germinate.  I believe that patience is good quality in a gardener.  You need to be relaxed to garden well, there is no point getting uptight as a something hasn’t flowered when you expected or a crop has been destroyed by some pest for me life is too short.  I think all the anomalies and hurdles that we gardeners encounter make gardening more interesting and rewarding.

So yes I am impatient with somethings in life – people who complain a lot, who don’t indicate at roundabouts, attempting to do dainty icing on cakes, tossing pancakes, getting close-ups of flowers in focus.  I’m sure others who know me well can add to the list but when it comes to the garden I can be very patient.

I am looking forward to  reading other bloggers thought processes.
