The Shangtastic Dimsum Lunch at Shang Palace Cannot Be Missed!

By Thetastingfork
Shang Palace, Shangri-La's Eros Hotel’s Chinese restaurant, is currently running a dimsum lunch food promotion called Shangtastic Dimsum Lunch. The lunch offers you unlimited dimsums of numerous varieties, followed by one portion of main course with a side and one scoop of ice cream. Before I get into the details and I tell you more about my experience, just know that you need to leave everything else and just run to Shang Palace for the Shangtastic Lunch NOW!

Chef Ye Hai Jun is the star behind this food promotion, and he deserves every praise possible for his stellar work! Plethora of dimsums, and so many kinds that you’re spoilt for choice. Steamed, pan fried, baked, fried, poached, baked buns, and believe me when I say this, I wish this dimsum lunch promotion wasn’t a promotion but a regular affair at Shang Palace.
I tried almost all the dimsums on the menu- a piece of each, but I made sure I tried every. The classic Prawn Har Gao was as great as you can imagine, the Steamed Chicken Shou Mai being very flavourful with a good amount of saltiness, the Steamed Pokchoy and Shitake Mushroom Dumpling with a beautiful delicate flavor of mushrooms, and the Spicy Edamame and pickled Mustard Leaves Dumpling a burst of flavours.

The Chicken Xioa Long Bao came as a surprise- a soupy steamed dimsum with broth inside the coating of the dimsum, bursts open in your mouth. Simply wow! The Steamed Corn and Chive Dumpling had such a translucent gorgeous coating, and the stuffing complementing it beautifully.

Baked dimsums will be the most surprising for people, and the most delicious ones too. I can guarantee it with my life. Firstly, because you don’t find them in most places (for the fear of saying all- what if someone comes and says we have it), and secondly because they’re so damn brilliant in taste! There’s a Baked Eggplant Puff with Chili Garlic in this, and one non vegetarian version. I cannot even begin describing how insane these taste! Made like a puff pastry but with extremely delicate exterior. Made with such finesse- you can even see the layers of the pastry carved so articulately. Bite into it and it’s a whole new world altogether. The crispiness of the puff, the softness of its exterior, the burst of flavours from the stuffing, and the whole thing melting in your mouth in minutes. No dipping sauces needed, just you and your dimsum. The Baked Char Siu Pork Bun is a closed bun from all sides- looks like a soup bun. It is hands down the softest bun I have ever had. Ever. I repeat, ever! The out-of-this-world stuffing of char siu pork inside is alone enough to make you never want to leave Shang Palace and camp in the restaurant itself.

Deep-fried Savoury Chicken Dumpling was a Chicken Spring Roll- absolutely perfect in taste and so so crisp on the outsdie, a Pan-fried Tenderloin and Chives Dumpling to give you the comfort of both steamed and fried in the same dimsum. Prawn Crackling Ball comes in the form of an octopus but with hundred legs. In the center of the gigantic piece is a small fried ball with prawn inside. This dimsum builds up a lot of emotions and excitement. You nibble on the crisp long legs of the octopus, if the server doesn’t tell you that there’s a dimsum inside, and if you’re a little off, you might not even realize there’s a surprise in the middle. You might think it’s something to nibble on, but no, there’s a beauty of a fried prawn dimsum waiting for you!

The Shangtastic Dimsum Lunch at Shang Palace Cannot Be Missed!I tried a couple of more dimsums, but I’m sure you know how they must taste- as exemplary as the rest. So it was now time to move on to the mains, and even though I was completely stuffed with all the dimsum stuffing I did, I was still excited and looking forward to the mains I think good food does that to your soul. In main course you can choose any one item, and pair it with rice or noodles. So I went with Claypot Chicken with Lotus Root and Chilli Garlic Sauce, and other people on the table went with a veg and a tofu option. The server agreed to get my main made less spicy, and what a lovely tasting dish it was! The noodles, no less than my chicken. A superb combo.
Because we were so many people on the table, we got the chance to try a couple of icecream flavours and not just the one that we were allowed in our lunch. The icecreams are all superlative. Homemade icecreams that taste so velvety, have the most unique and desirable flavours, and an extra edge to them that takes them to a whole new level. Mango with Dehydrated Mango and Lavender Pearls, Almond Icecream with Green Almond Flakes and Rose Petals, and Fresh Corn Icecream with Caramelized Popcorn. All three were great, but my favorite was the fresh corn icecream. Really, choose any and you will love it.

Shang Palace does a couple of cocktails that taste too too good, so enjoy those with your lunch (not included in the cost) and do make sure you go for this promotion!
