The Pull List: Must Read Comics of 4/17/13

Dark Horse

House of Gold & Bones #1

By: Corey Taylor, Richard Clark, Dan Jackson, Jason Shawn Alexander

Publisher: Dark Horse

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: It is not unusual for rockstars to get into the comic writing business. Corey Taylor is the newest one. You might know him from the heavy metal band Slipknot, but this project is inspired by the album of the same name from Stone Sour, his other band. It is about a protagonist only known as Human who traverses an alternate dimension.

He Man

He Man And The Masters Of The Universe #1

By: Keith Giffen, Pop Mhan, Ed Benes

Publisher: DC Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: Keith Giffen is in the same boat as Alan Moore and Grant Morrison. They love classic superhero tales, and it shows, yet they also need to turn the whole thing on their head. I think that is a great way to move forward with a new He Man franchise. Unfortunately, the solicit makes this sound like a sequel of sorts with already a lot of history existing in Eternia, including a dead teammate and a old villain returning.

Batman

Nightwing #19

By: Kyle Higgins, Brett Booth

Publisher: DC Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: I’ll admit the real reason I originally put this on the list was because it was rumored all the laughing on the cover was from The Creeper, and I am a big fan of the character. It turns out it is not the Creeper as I just googled it, but Nightwing is going in an excited new direction anyway. He’s moving to Chicago after the Death of the Family arc where he finds out that Tony Zucco, the gangster who rigged the death of the Flying Graysons, is alive and well.

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman #19

By: Brian Azzarello, Tony Akins, Cliff Chiang

Publisher: DC Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: Wonder Woman vs Orion…..or is it? By the way, from the looks of the cover we are going to get a good look at Orion’s real ugly mug which is usually disguised by Motherbox to look much less Darkseid-esque.

Jesus

Miniature Jesus #1 (of 5)

By: Ted McKeever

Publisher: Image Comics

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: I am not sure how the cover fits into the premise, but it is about an alcoholic trying to get his life together, but only the little devil on his shoulder is showing up to help. The little angel guy with all the good ideas is no where to be found.

X-Men

Cable And X-Force #7

By: Dennis Hopeless, Salvador Larroca

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: Cable and X-Fore has been……ok, but I can’t miss this opportunity. Cable, set-up into committing a crime with every intention of stopping one and forced to go on the lam with his team, comes face to face with his dear old dad, Cyclops, a leader of his own fugitive team when he was branded a mutant terrorist while trying to be a mutant martyr. Should be fun!

Guardians of the Galaxy

Nova #3

By: Jeph Loeb, Ed McGuinness

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: I wasn’t a fan of the first issue of Nova to the point that I skipped the second issue. I might just still be raw because Nova is Sam Alexander instead of Richard Ryder. But I can’t possibly skip seeing Nova trained by Rocket Raccoon and Gamora in the costumes I preferred they wear instead of whatever they are wearing in the new Guardians of the Galaxy comic.
