Experienced the Picnic Table at Gateway Resort Damdama last week, courtesy the hotel, and what was put before me was an experience truly exhilarating! Imagine a setup with a huge lush green lawn, with innumerable activities you can indulge in and reminisce your childhood. A perfect family spot would come to everyone's mind, but I'd say you can even go here with your friends and have a gala time.
A magician to keep you entertained with the tricks, a pandit to do some palmistry, board games like Monopoly, Ludo, Scrabble and Chess to play on the table, and some crazy outdoor activities like zip lining, rifle shooting, coming down the spider web, bubble soccer, archery, huge-sized nets, a play area with swings, camel ride and horse ride, paintball and what not. You get an idea! No, you don't. Till the time I was sitting comfortably on my chair looking at all these activities, I only had an idea what it would be like when I went and started doing some of these myself. But I was in for a complete surprise! Laughter and joy, panting by doing all of the net climbing, bubbling with excitement no end during the super fun bubble soccer session, scared as hell to cross the net set up a few feet high and come down from the other side, being harnessed and tied to a rope while crossing the path of balancing, falling on the grass and getting my clothes dirty- it was unimaginable joy, and more so for me because I can't recall the last time I indulged in such activities. Maybe some 4-5 years ago, if not more. These activities make your time here super fun. Not just for the kids but also for the adults. It brings out the child in you, it's as simple as that.
The hotel is doing a menu with sandwiches, burgers, juices, milkshakes, cookies, wraps and the likes, and the food is what is their weak point at the moment. The food is fresh, but it's really only average. Wraps are dry with little or no dressing, with lettuce and crisp chicken. The Iced Teas were brilliant! Chilled and flavoured so well. The shakes are either too sweet (Strawberry) or very thin in consistency (the Oreo Shake hardly had any oreos). Their Lamb Burger was a saving grace with that juicy lamb patty, but the food is not something that would be an incentive for me to come back, it's only the Adventure Zone and the whole feel of 'picnic' that would bring me back for the Picnic Table. Plus they really need to work on the service too. The service will improve over time but I hope the food becomes better too.
