It’s took me a little longer than I wanted to get this post up, I’ve been meaning to feature these on my blog for a little while now but I really couldn’t decide what my opinions were! The New Black Specials, Rock N’ Roll Royalty*, is a little set of four nail polishes that promise to give you the ultimate rock chick look with heavy metals, and glittery, glossy finishes. I think the problem I had with this set when it came to deciding my opinions was that these colours just aren’t anything I would go for in Summer, to me they look like something you’d wear at Christmas or New Year. That being said, I tested them out a couple of times and finally made my mind up.
My verdict? Thumbs up. This little set really is everything you need, and the quality is just as good as the colours. I’ve never been one for glitter nail polish as to me it’s just too much hard work taking it off, but the gold glitter shade in this really wasn’t that bad and felt quite fine, rather than being big clumpy bits of glitter. In the above photo I did use quite a lot of layers to get the full glitter effect and I don’t think I’d use this in the summer months, but come Christmas time I can definitely see me making the effort to use this for parties! I love the black too, I don’t own any other black nail polishes as I just think it’s a little ugly, but the fine silver glitter in this one made it really pretty! The red is like a true post box red, with the ever so slight hint of an orange undertone. Who doesn’t need more red nail polish? It’s a color I always reach for when I’m getting dressed up and going out so I know I’ll get so much use out of it.
When I painted these on my own nails I used the clear nail polish in the set as a base and top coat, and two coats of the red/black, and I would say it lasted 3-4 days. With a different top coat though (Rimmel Salon pro, what else would I use?) I got about a good 6 days wear out of them before it was time to repaint! That’s impressive. The only thing I wasn’t too keen on in the New Black Specials kit was the little metallic stone things you can use, they aren’t up my street at all and with my fat dumpy fingers I couldn’t get them on without my whole nails messing up! If you’re into your nail art though, I bet you could come up with something pretty cool :)
