The Old Biscuit Mill is a little village in the heart of Woodstock, Cape Town.  Here South Africa’s most talented, innovative designers, artists, photographers, and connoisseurs of fine taste and décor come together to share their passion.  The Mill is home to day and night markets with the addition of offices, designer stores, great restaurants,  festivals and productions.

But for me the best part of the Old Biscuit Mill is its Saturday morning Neighbourgoods Market. And I have to tell you, this is a WOW market.  Its seriously one of the greatest markets I have visited.  Its world class and the food is sensational.

It’s more of a casual eatery than a market.  Although there are loads of things to buy and take home, this is more of a place to sit and eat the unbelievably large variety of  foods  our fair Cape has to offer. Everyone who is anyone can be seen here on a Saturday morning as well as the arty, the trendy and the not so trendy…. people watching at its best.

But whoever you are, you are bound to have a great time, and plan to get there early.  Its crazy busy by midday, and seating is hard to come by, but if you manage to get a seat at the long center tables filled with South African Proteas, wildflowers and candles, make sure you have a large bottle of good South African Wine or bubbly to keep you refreshed while you  eat, and watch the passers by.  The people, the smells, the music and the food is what makes Cape Town so special

And because we are South African,  we do love our meat.  Salami, the best Frankfurters ever, rare roasted beef, parma ham, and sizzling bacon are just a few of  the delicious meats on offer, or try the Lamb and Tongue, or Kudu Potjie on a winter’s day.

Unfortunately, if you want to get the smells, and taste the exceptional foods available, then you will have to board the next plane to Cape Town and spend the morning indulging yourself in wine, beer and the sensational collection of food this market has to offer.
