The masks of Thumbelina The masks of Thumbelina The masks of Thumbelina
As you might recall, I have a thing for the story of Thumbelina. Not because it's a very soulful story, because it's not. But mostly because it's about a very small girl surrounded by oversized objects and as you might be aware, I love scale! Admittedly, I'm a deeply superficial person. There, you have it.
I've been inspired by the story (read the full text here for a refresher) for a few projects in the past year. One of them was a shoot that I did in July (photos to come!). I had commissioned by sister, Caitlin, to create some masks for it, but the dear Danish Post decided to scan them over for a few weeks before letting me know they had arrived. SO, I didn't get them until the day after my shoot. She created them by layering different papers and then painting on them. Beautiful, right?! Well, I left them back in Copenhagen with Tina Fussell of Traveling Mama who shot them in the woods with he kids. Delightful, huh? And check out the tent story she did for A Subtle Revelry using two of my oversized paper roses. So beautiful.
