The Irish Mule

By Thedreamery

The Irish MuleThere was no way I was passing on celebrating the inaugural National Moscow Mule Day! Ever since taking my first sip back when I was living in Arizona, it instantly became one of my favorite cocktails. Over the years my cocktail drinking and appreciation has definitely become refined, some would even say I’m a bit of a snob or picky. But the real truth is that I really can’t stand sweet drinks or concoctions made with too many processed flavorings. You’re talking to the girl who makes Mojitos without simple syrup.

Mojitos take reign as my go-to, then there was a solid Whiskey Ginger phase. I’ll always prefer a chilled glass of Whiskey or Scotch, and of course the Moscow Mule! It’s only been in recent years that this refreshing and perfectly spicy cocktail gained the popularity that it has now. There are no frills about it, the classic using just three ingredients; vodka, lime and ginger beer. Yet, the variations are endless! I love creating seasonal Mules, cranberry and pomegranate in the winter, blueberries and cucumber in the summer. And since St. Patrick’s Day is in a few weeks I thought it was perfect timing to share the Irish Mule, combining flavors from two of my favorite cocktails.

The Irish Mule
If you’re a longtime fan of the original Moscow Mule, as I am, but haven’t tried the Irish version, then you’re in for a treat. The vodka is replaced with your preferred whiskey and fresh mint for even more freshness and a fun pop of color, of course.

Serve up your Mules in chilled copper mugs. No they’re not only for pictures, traditionally mules are served in these mugs to keep them colder longer. The final result is a cocktail that is spicy, smooth, comforting and anything but sweet. But if you like a bit of sweetness add a few teaspoons of honey.

I highly suggest you save this recipe, I have a feeling it’s going to be an entertaining staple this Spring and Summer. Cheers!
