The Great London Songs No.17: Oranges & Lemons

We've asked our London Walkers and London Walks guides to nominate their favorite London songs… and the playlist is proving to be wide-ranging and eclectic indeed. 
From punk to jazz, with a little music hall thrown in along the way, we'll be collating them all here on The Daily Constitutional over the next few weeks in the run-up to the launch of our new Rock'n'Roll London Pub Walk every Wednesday from 1st May 2013.

My choice for a great London song is the centuries-old "Oranges and Lemons" about the bells of St. Clements and other local churches. From the related childhood game to the history gleaned from passing by St. Clement Danes during a walk and waiting for the bells to peal, the tune rings in my memory. Isn't that what London Walks is all about… simultaneously learning and having fun? Just don't be the last to pass this way or the chopper may choose you as his victim.
P. S. I experienced "Oranges and Lemons' on the Shakespeare's & Dickens's London - Old City Walk on a Sunday afternoon, a "fruitful" outing normally guided by the erudite David.
