Jumping for joy at the Grand Canyon

Jumping for joy at the Grand Canyon

Some of you may be aware that I have a rather large shoe collection, yet I’m always in search of a more comfortable shoe (this is why I have such a big collection). Recently I was given a pair of Rockport Seaworthy II shoes from The Athlete’s Foot to try out and so as someone who does a reasonable amount of standing and walking I took up that challenge.

Normally when I’m taking a client shopping, (which averages 4000 steps in a 2 hour shopping session for me as I find different sizes and styles of clothing) I’ll wear a ballet flat shoe but by the end of the shopping expedition I’ll be dying to take them off as they don’t offer much padding in the sole.

A short respite at the AICI Conference

A short respite at the AICI Conference

As I was about to take an overseas trip to the AICI (Association of Image Consultants International) Conference in Arizona, where I knew I’d be doing lots of walking as I:

  • Travelled on the plane from Melbourne to Los Angeles then onto Phoenix Arizona
  • Pounded the pavements on an 8 hour shopping expedition in Los Angeles
  • Walked the long corridors of the hotel convention centre (why are the bedrooms always so far from the hotel conference rooms?)
  • Went sightseeing around Sedona and the Grand Canyon
There was no slipping on the rocks in these Rockports as I was climbing the amazing red rocks around Sedona, Arizon

I realised this would be an excellent opportunity to put the Rockport Seaworthy II shoes to the test.

I chose the black (options are black, red or cream) as I have dark hair which means that whatever I’m wearing, they will work with my outfit (Visual Grouping in image consultant terms) so the colour is the most versatile for me and allows me to work them with lots of different outfits. And the upper is a really soft premium grade machine washable leather that makes you feel like you’re wearing your favourite pair of comfy slippers. I am not kidding they really are like putting on a pair of slippers.

If you’ve ever done long international flights you’d be aware that feet can swell and shoes can easily become uncomfortable, particularly when you have to walk 15 minutes to a far away gate, carrying your luggage. Comfort is key to travel wear and I’m happy to report that even after the flight to LA, taking my shoes on and off to go through security at the airport (it was so easy to slip them off and on again to get through the scanners) then a full day of shopping (well, you have to do something to keep yourself awake so that the jet lag doesn’t set in), my feet were happy, happy, happy. No rubbing at all and no need for the bandaids that I keep in my purse (and this was the first time I wore the shoes, no need to ‘wear them in’).

Onto Arizona and an international board meeting of the AICI where I dressed up the shoes with a silk blouse and some bling. They took me along the long corridors of the conference hotel with a spring in my step. Now image consultants conferences can be notoriously difficult to dress for (I bring many more outfits than I’d ever pack to go on a holiday as when you make your living from telling people what to wear, you have to try and look stylish all the time). Normally I’d be wearing high heels and by halfway through the day be hobbling back to my room with shoes in hand to change into a pair of thongs (not a stylish look), but this time wearing my new Rockport Seaworthy II shoes which are smart enough that I can put them on with a pant for work I felt not one jot of pain and wore them 16 hours straight.

When I pack I make sure that my shoes will work with my outfits, and I decided that these would work with both trousers and I could slip them under my maxi dress where necessary. Versatile!

Rockport Seaworthy II

The Rockport Seaworthy II shoes let me climb the dusty tracks over rocky ground in comfort and style.

And when I get home I’ll be able to throw them in the washing machine to clean them up so they look brand new!

At last I’ve found an incredibly comfortable shoe. I’ll be wearing these on personal shopping trips with clients, as well as walking the dog. On past trips overseas I’ve had endless issues with blisters (particularly when it’s hot, like it is in Arizona at the moment at 35C- 40C), so the fact that I have been able to wear these shoes day after day with no rubbing on my bunions or blisters on my heels has been a delight.

If you too want a great everyday shoe that lets you move from one activity to the next with ease, you can get your Rockport SeaworthyIIshoes either online or in stores at The Athlete’s Foot (here is the store locator) as they not only stock athletic shoes but also casual and comfortable shoes for every day. This was something I wasn’t aware of as I’d always thought they were just for the athletic shoe! Find your fit at The Athlete’s Foot!
