The End to Racism Needs to Start at The Top

By Bren @Virtual_Bren

One of the good things about “pushin’ 50” is the ability to blurt things out and blame it on being old. Ok, maybe that happens a little more “pushin’ 60”, but I’m going to use it.

Another good thing is I’ve been on this earth a lot long than some and have seen many changes to the way we live, the way our Government operates, corruption rising, and economic devastation.

But one of the things that has bothered me for years is the never-ending discussion about racism and the division of our people. When I say “our people”, I mean Americans. I haven’t lived outside the United States so I won’t pretend to know anything about what happens in other Countries.

The End to Racism Needs to Start at The Top

I spoke about it before, Change Must Start at the Top. Remember the old game “Follow the Leader”? If our Leader(s) are setting a good example, won’t people follow along?

Maybe, maybe not. But there are “changes” that we can make to try to stop the racial divide.

Reminder: My blog, My rules. Do Not Turn This into a Racial Debate. Thank you.

Back to business…… The divide amongst us continues to escalate. We need to devise ways to stop it!

The End to Racism Needs to Start at the Top

Labeling

When I speaking about labeling, I mean our Race. Why are we categorized as:

  • White
  • Black
  • African-American
  • American Indian or Alaska Native
  • Asian
  • Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander

Then we add Ethnicity:

  • Hispanic or Latino
  • Not Hispanic or Latino

Does it really make a difference what we are labeled as?

Documentation

If you ever applied for a job, did you notice the application asks what Race you are? When you apply to purchase a car or a mortgage, the boxes that we must check are sitting right there? What about registering for school or college?

Again, does it really make a difference?

Coming from someone who has spent many years working in Human Resources, there is such a thing called EEO – Equal Opportunity Employer. Do you know what this means?

An employer which follows the principle of equal opportunity in regards to its hiring and promotion procedures. An equal opportunity employer is not allowed to discriminate based on items such as race or gender, and is required to give everyone an equal chance. (Source)

So if we are not allowed to discriminate based on race or gender, why is Race even on the application?

Did you know by Law, employers are supposed to employ a certain percentage ratio of minorities?

Let’s Get Rid of It!

There could be a dozen other “governmental” reasons for including Race categorizations on important applications, however, can you image what if we ditched it removed it from all applications?

People would get interviews based simply on their qualifications. Mortgages and other Loans would be based on income to debt ratio. Admittance to college would be based on SAT scores or simple our GPA.

What would it take for us to kick racial labels out of our America?  Just think about it. Can you image an America where we weren’t labeled as anything other than Male, Female, Transgendered, Undecided?😉

See, I believe a change could be made to this “labeling” nonsense. However, the orders need to come from the top. It won’t end all racism or racial inequalities, but it could be a good start.

This is solely based on my opinions and views alone. It does not reflect on my family, friends, or employer.

Remember: If you can’t be nice in your comments, do not comment at all.
