The Eatery Insider: 5 Must-Taste Restaurants Throughout the World’s Coffee Capital

Melbourne is known for it’s fashion, coffee, culture, and food. It is consistently ranked the #1 most livable city in the world, and a large part of that ranking is the abundance of food and drink of all kinds, available all over the city.

From Chatty Vespa Prahran pizza to Vue de Monde all the way atop the Rialto Tower, Melbourne food radiates quality and flavour, bringing people from all over the country and the world to see, smell, and taste Melbourne’s finest. Here we have a list of the 5 must-taste restaurants throughout the coffee capital of the world; Melbourne.

Vue de Monde

Vue de Monde is an experience. Even entering the restaurant from the street is exclusive, as you must have a reservation, you must be well dressed to be allowed entry, and there is no button in the elevator to get to the top floor – the doorman has to swipe a keycard in the elevator for you to get there.

Once inside, a world of new tastes and culinary experiences await, centered around French cuisine and degustation. A considerable price tag is attached to this dining delight, but the experience will stay with you for years to come, and you’ve never tasted food like the food served at Vue de Monde.

Rockpool

With a view of the Yarra that is second to none, Rockpool is one of the most highly reviewed restaurants in Melbourne. Functioning as a “bar & grill”, the steaks at Rockpool are legendary, and the service is impeccable. Rockpool was inspired by the steakhouses of America, and only uses the finest quality of beef, which they dry age themselves in order to get a better, more full flavor than standard run-of-the-mill steaks.

Sourcing their beef from only a select few suppliers, they ensure that the only people supplying them are farms that treat their animals humanely. Located in the Crown Plaza, this is a must-visit location for the foodie in you.

Dinner by Heston Blumenthal

In 2015, legendary british chef Heston Blumenthal closed up his iconic restaurant ,The Fat Duck, and flew it and all the staff to Melbourne for a six month season while the premises back in Bray, England were refurbished.

After this whirlwind of fine dining and international wonder, The Fat Duck flew back home, and in it’s place a new restaurant stood- Dinner by Heston Blumenthal. Dinner by Heston is a fine dining experience not unlike the world-renowned Fat Duck, but with a focus on the history of “dinner”, and a slightly more affordable price point.

Maha

Described as “unrestricted middle eastern dining”, Maha has been capturing the minds and tastebuds of it’s patrons for years, bringing a uniquely middle-eastern dining experience into the heart of Melbourne. Consistently winning chef’s hats from the Age Good Food Guide for the last 8 years, Maha is a force to be reckoned with, and a destination for anyone willing to try something wonderfully different.

Epocha

Epocha is located in Carlton, and boasts European-influenced dishes to delight and satisfy. Highly rated and very affordable at around $80 a head, the service is known for being appropriately paced and they are well able to cater to larger groups and parties. Roast dishes and desserts are praised as favourites among the diners, so don’t wait to get your reservations in for this delectable dream dining experience.

The dining experiences in Melbourne are second-to-none, and while these are the unmissable experiences, there are hundreds more throughout the city and surrounding suburbs.
