Satchels are absolutely everywhere at the moment! From high street knock-off’s to the real deal, this style of satchel has drawn the attention of those in love with new concepts (neons and bright colours) to those seeking tradition and simplicity (browns and neutral colours).

The Cambridge Satchel Company has been made famous by an advert by Google which goes to show the power of a big idea and its collaboration with bloggers! I couldn’t resist joining the club and getting The Classic 14″ satchel in vintage, and I think it’s the only bag that both me and my mom love.

The finish on this bag is amazing. It’s been made so precisely of really good quality leather, and it’s quickly become my main daytime bag. There’s a few reasons for this; firstly it looks great and goes with most outfits because of the neutral and warm brown colour, secondly it’s good for both smart and casual occasions, thirdly it has a really good storage capacity, and fourthly it’s really good quality so I know it will be reliable.

These bags come in an array of different colours, from bright neons, metallics and pastels to neutral browns and darker colours. This one in particular is called ‘vintage’ because it’s the classic brown satchel associated with school bags. My one is a 14″ Classic, although you can also get 11″, 13″, 14″ and 15″, and I believe that the Cambridge Satchel Company have also introduced a new mini 9″ bag. There are other styles to choose from such as the batchel, the Chelsea, etc.

The 14″ Classic contains 2 compartments, one at the front which connects the 2 buckles together, and a larger main compartment which is big enough to store an A4 notepad a jumper, water bottle, etc. The measurements are as follows:

Top flap: 14” (35.5cm)

Height: 9.5” (24cm)

Depth: 3.4” (8.6cm) at base

It’s big enough to hold my Bobble 24/7 water bottle upright which is my ultimate requirement for a bag! It can also hold all of my make up in the front compartment easily, although I would suggest putting yours in a makeup bag to stop individual items from coming out.

So far I’ve been using the bag for about 6 months and it has held its shape relatively well. When it was brand new the leather was quite tough but it has loosened up and become more flexible, but not soft and floppy like the high street alternatives. I have noticed that one of the buckle straps is a bit softer than the other, but seeing as I’m constantly doing up and undoing the buckles I would expect this (they become a doddle to undo quickly once you get the hang of it!). I’ve also noticed some slight wear on the inside of the strap from where it’s rubbed on my clothes, but it’s still in good condition, doesn’t have any scratches and hasn’t frayed. Overall, I’m very impressed!

These bags are expensive; the RRP for this bag is £116 but if you see their factory seconds page on their website they sell bags for discounted prices if they have something slightly wrong with them. Mine has a deep cut on the inside which has been glued together, but because of this I managed to get mine for £50 – less than half price. It’s not even visible from the outside! I do think the bags are a little expensive otherwise, but they are a statement piece made with great quality materials, and I imagine this bag is going to last a long time.
