The Big Chop Diaries: MOISTURE PLEASE!!

By Ipage @xquisite_curls
It is now my 3rd day as a Naturalista. I haven't regretted my decision to cut my hair at all, which surprises me. I kind of expected to be in fetal position while sitting inside of an empty bathtub, crying and wailing while trying desperately to stick my cut-off locks back onto my head for about a good 14 to 30 days or so. Luckily my confidence has remained unscathed and intact. Yay me!
Anyway, back to my hair itself. These are pictures of my hair as it looks now: CLICK HERE
Now, I have ONE issue, but it's an important one: MOISTURE. Actually, my issue is a LACK of MOISTURE. My hair becomes desert-dry every few hours! I literally have to reapply moisturizer about 4 times a day. I conditioner wash (co-wash) my hair every day. I have leave-in creams, sprays, oils, and Aloe Vera gel. NOTHING WORKS (so far).
I have searched YouTube videos and articles, and I've come to the conclusion that this is "scab hair". Scab hair hasn't been verified as fact, but from my trolling hair boards and forums it does seem to be an issue many people believe they have. Now let me be clear, I haven't seen my hair in its natural state since the age of 7. But...it wasn't this! LOL! Basically, the solutions I see online is to keep moisturizing your hair as needed and in about a month (or longer) your hair will start to retain the moisture. Great. So how do I mange until then?? While pondering my problem and nursing a glass of wine (gotta have my wine), a memory came to mind.
When I was younger, my mom tried this product called Dudley's Moisture Retainer. It was absolutely amazing with keeping your hair moisturized.... maybe a little too good. It was a humectant which pulled moisture from the air into your hair. We had to stop using it because the moment it was slightly damp outside, our hair would be sopping wet. Using a curling iron was useless, the curls would drop like flies. Hahaha, memories :) Anyway, I just thought of that last night. That product was probably intended for natural hair anyway. I'm going to buy some, try it out, then post my results. This is all assuming that they still make this particular product...I guess we shall see.
My hair sounds like a pile of dried leaves again. Sigh. I need a moisture transfusion, stat.
