The Best Secret UK Getaways!
Before you book your all inclusive Mediterranean break this summer, it's worth knowing that there are many nooks and crannies here in the UK which make fantastic holiday destinations. While you may consider many places in the British Isles off-limits in the winter period, and for good reason, in the summer the whole country opens up as many holiday spots become not just habitable but glorious in the sunshine.

I don't know about you, but I'd much prefer to have a local family holiday to the seaside than the stress of packing and getting everyone together for a few weeks abroad! I'll save those for when Abbie is a bit older and it's less stressful I think!

Cycling in Norfolk  The winding country roads, picturesque canals and enchanting woodlands make Norfolk a cyclist’s paradise. There are also awesome coastal paths where you can take in the country views and sea air all at once. The famous Sustrans National Cycle Network utilises old railway paths, woodland tracks, and bridleways to provide an almost traffic-free route which gives you a fantastic cross-section of the region.
North Yorkshire Cuisine  North Yorkshire is a treasure trove of excellent eateries with local produce and top chefs. Cookery courses in Malton, Swinton and Saltburn by Sea give you an excellent reason to visit this beautiful area of the country. Once there you can’t fail to notice the breath-taking scenery with rolling hills, rugged coast line and lovely touches like a steam train railway
Country Life in Shropshire  Shropshire’s rural pleasantness is home to numerous holiday destinations. Have a look on Holidaylettings.co.uk for some great cottages to hire in the area. Once you are in Shropshire, there are castles to visit, golf courses to play and some great walking routes, perfect for the whole family!
North Coast of Scotland  Holiday providers such as UK Breakaways run regular trips north of the border. Exploring the beaches on the northerly coast is a rare treat. Hop on a bike or even a boat to see as much of this dramatic landscape as possible. If you have the time, island hopping across the Hebrides is a lovely holiday (if, potentially, quite chilly).
A Day in Durham  For those with an interest in history, the city of Durham is a great location. As well as the imposing build of Durham Cathedral in the town itself, there is also Beamish Museum and Auckland castle nearby. For those who want to escape to the country, there are beautiful rural surroundings immediately outside of the city, definitely a little hidden gem!
Fossil Forage on the Jurassic Coast  And for earth science enthusiasts (or people that just think dinosaurs are cool!) the Jurassic Coast gives unrivalled into the history of the earth. As interesting as it is picturesque, this area of Dorset and East Devon is a fantastic location for the whole family. I loved fossil hunting when I was younger, plus you're always close to the beach for those who would rather build sandcastles!
Go Green in Brighton  The Earthship Brighton uses all natural resources to provide its utilities and is made exclusively from recycled materials. You can take a tour of the Low Carbon Trust project and be inspired, take a walk along the famous pier or just have a stroll along the beach and set up camp for a picnic, game of bat and ball or a good splash in the water! Brighton is a firm favorite for the whole family!
