Milan Fashion Week just wrapped up in the Italian fashion capital, as the latest designs from various designers took the stage. The collections for the autumn-winter 2017-18 season were classic, in the sense that they featured classic fall colors and textures, but they were also elegant, polished and sophisticated.
What we liked most about them was that they were conceptual without being cookie – the clothes conveyed messages while still being up for interpretation and wearable.
Here are our favorite looks from our favorite collections:
Emporio Armani
A very continental vibe came from Emporio Armani, as the brand worked with rich neutrals, balanced proportions and dynamic prints. We really loved the way in which the bold print went hand in hand with the soft, casual vibe of the cuts, which resulted in a dynamic combination.
Christian Pellizzari
A dark pink-burgundy and gray combination is a fresh take on the classic autumn pallets consisting of neutrals and dark reds or browns. We really loved the equestrian vibe of the outfit, given by the hat, which really set the tone for the whole ensemble. This look is great for an outdoors party in the autumn time.
Antonio Marras
This bad boy look is right for all the right reasons: it has a strong aesthetic, it makes many references, it is both wearable and creative and it can put you in a good mood. What more can you want from a casual outfit?
Les Hommes
One of the most powerful collections of the event, the Les Hommes fall-winter 2017-18 collection was designed with the futuristic biker in mind. This guy is not afraid to take chances and to do great things.
Versace
Donatella Versace’s latest collection is destined for the man who wants to have it all. The collection is rich in every sense of the word. Working with contrasting fabrics, the label managed to present a collection that can easily be divided into many capsule pieces.
Moschino
Continuing their illusions theme, for the autumn-winter 2017-18 season, Moschino went in a military direction. The collection told a spiral story that started out with an innocent, dreamlike version of a military suit, going through deep realism and ending with artistic interpretation.
Dirk Bikkembergs
Dirk Bikkembergs’ collection was quite somber and a bit down this season, but it definitely featured some eye-grabbing looks that caught our attention. We really enjoyed this white-beige look that combines casualwear with extreme luxe.
Missoni
We really loved the autumn dégradés by Missoni. The warm, yet deep colors used in the collection gave us a sense of nostalgia for the 1970s, but also, in a weird way for the 2000s, due to the two-tone color choices. The clothes were wearable and elegant and we think many men could wear them.
Prada
Also looking back at the 1970s, Prada worked with knitwear and autumnal colors for their collection. It was interesting how the colors were bright and warm, but in a way very robust. An interesting combination that reflects much of the world.
Moncler Gamme Bleu
As usually, Moncler Gamme Bleu’s motto seemed to be “dress to impress” and they did it in their own way, combining references and using their signature colors. The shapes featured on the outfits were organic, yet mechanical and defined the brand’s vision for the cold 2017-18 season.
N°21
N°21 played with casual pieces, which were taken to a very high level of sophistication and polish and mixed them with dressy clothes. The mix was a collection of ready-to-wear pieces that can be easily interchanged and styled.
Malibu 1992
It’s quite hard for us to say “no” to a cape or any type of cover blanket-style piece. Especially when it looks as interesting as this Malibu 1992 creation. While the print is a bit busy, balanced with something soft and calming can make it stand out in a great way.
Fendi
While it’s not very likely to see such a leopard coat being worn casually, we couldn’t not recognize this beautiful look by Fendi. Also, the mix between the fur coat and the casual headband is really great. Talk about high and low mixes!
Giorgio Armani in collaboration with Cnmi
The Giorgio Armani collaboration with Cnmi told a great color story, going from black and white to extremely colorful pieces, showing that you can mix aesthetics in a way that works. Also, how can you not love a horse jacket?
Giorgio Armani
Saving the best for last, the Giorgio Armani collection was definitely among our favorites. Hard and soft, bold and subtle, dressy and casual. This collection was one of those collections that really stood out without artifice and while keeping it simple, yet sophisticated.
Many of the looks presented during this edition of Milan Fashion Week were very dramatic. Their theatrical aesthetic made them visually interesting and, more than anything thought-provoking. In a world that is rapidly changing, many designers have sat down to ponder on the directions culture will go in and this process was visible in their designs, which were very conflicted and raw.
