From the water the Baths like its a gorgeous beach with a bunch of boulders, I didn’t really understand what the hype was all about. Well I’m going to hype HYPE HYPE it up now. The Baths rock! But here’s what you need to know if you plan on visiting the area. You cannot anchor at the Baths (so says the guide book) but when all the moorings are full we’ve seen at least 10 boats anchor. There are also no dingys allowed on the beach I’m guessing due to swimmers in the water, make sure you pack your camera and other valuables in a waterproof bag in order to swim to shore. This is where a mooring ball is good, you can kayak or paddle board in to save on your energy for exploring. Make sure there’s no cruise ship parked around the corner. I haven’t experienced the cruise ship at the Baths phenomenon but I hear it’s epic. Hundreds of people climbing over slippery rocks, no thank you. So what did we do? We arrived at 4pm in the afternoon. There was a cruise ship parked but they were already lifting anchor and leaving. There were plenty of moorings available and everyone that was left was in exit mode. You can’t stay overnight at the Baths and you’d be crazy if you wanted to. You roll around like a toy boat in a tub full of kids. The afternoon sun on the rocks was stunning but I hear if you’re there to take pictures the morning sun is even more brilliant. Because we had kids with us and there were no swimmers or beach goers we dingyed in to shore to offload everyone. The poor sucker (Justin) who goes out and ties the boat off at the swimming barrier has to then swim in. Be especially wary of the conditions if there is a large swell coming in you may not want to head it. It can get extremely dicey with the current and swell. Our friends told us that plenty of people have died trying to swim in on rough days. There are flags up that warn you of swell, jelly fish etc so pay attention. The kids (and adults) loved the Baths, must see on my list. Must see with NO CROWDS. bath1
