The 63rd Annual Emmy Awards

Posted on the 19 September 2011 by Karibestrycki @bloglikeitshot

If you decided to try and dig that hole to China you’ve been meaning to get to and forgot to turn on the TV last evening, you missed a very important piece of television. Last night was the 63rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards…hosted by Jane Lynch.

I made sure to clear my busy schedule of re-watching “Titanic” in order to view the 6-hour coverage of the Emmys. I’d like to thank the E! network for making Giuliana Rancic put her Emmy uniform on at the crack of dawn in order to start the Emmy coverage at 5 p.m. for those of us on the East Coast.

The Funny

There were so many moments during 3-hour telecast that made me LOL…I guess that term does have some significance behind it. I will list them for your reading pleasure:

Jane Lynch - This lady had a bucket of LOL moments as host. Her opening was fun and upbeat…complete with lip-syncing, dance numbers, a shot at Bristol Palin and a cameo by the “Can you hear me now?” Verizon guy!

The “Glee” star also spit out many hil.ari.ous quotes, such as:

  • “Try doing that in triple spanx.”
  • “Welcome back to the ‘Modern Family’ awards.”
  • “…After the show we turn the cameras to the wall and we love” (while standing next to Jon Hamm).
  • “Many people wonder why I’m a lesbian…” immediately after Jane introduces the cast of “Entourage.”
  • When Jane is spotted slapping the earpiece off someone working backstage.
  • The “Jersey Shore” Emmy Skit. Favises part: when Snooki informs us that she was just a Harvard undergrad before the shore.

Comedy Actress Nominees – Jane Lynch wasn’t the only one dealing out laughs at the Emmys.

A definite highlight of the awards was the Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series category.

The list of nominees encompassed some of the funniest woman in the public eye today, including:

Laura Linney - Melissa McCarthy - Edie Falco - Amy Poehler - Martha Plimpton - Tina Fey

What was so unusually funny about this category was when presenters, Rob Lowe and Sofia Vergara announced the nominees…the ladies walked up on stage acting like they had won the award. By the end of the nominee listing, all six women were up on stage. My favises fake reactions: Tina Fey and Amy Poehler!

The audience gave these six wonderful women a standing ovation. I saw the hesitation in the crowd, but once Kate Winslet stood up, everyone joined in. Why? Kate Winslet is the ultimate leader in the game “Simon Says.” Therefore, if you are within 16 feet of her, you must do or say what she tells you.

In the end Melissa McCarthy took home the lady holding the globe trophy and a crown. After her name was called, those of us watching the television diligently saw her mouth “holy shit.” She started out her emotional speech with “It’s my first and best pageant ever.”

The Lonely Island – The final funny moment I want to discuss is when “The Lonely Island” appeared on stage singing such hits as “I Just Had Sex,” “Jack Sparrow” and “3-Way (The Golden Rule).”

Why this is so hilarious? Michael Bolton is dressed as a pirate who is singing his face off with dancers dressed as waves grinding the air.

3-Way: Maya Rudolph, Ed Helms, and Uncle Jesse also join in on the singing fun. The melody comes to an end with Akon announcing that he just had sex.

Stay tuned for The Worst and The Favises moments of the Emmys!
