The 2013 Guide To Glamping

By Cleverbuttons @cleverbuttons

Hi All,

I am very excited to give you the first glamping post of the year! I now have my own yurt, which makes camping so much more fun!

If your memories of camping predate your adulthood and include flashbacks to mosquitoes, tie-dye socks and coin-operated community showers, it might be time to give “glamping” a chance. Glamping looks something like an American Eagle Outfitters or Free People catalog come to life. It is all smiling faces, coordinating outfits and dinners that don’t include SPAM over an open flame. It’s the kind of trip that will give you the Facebook cover photos everyone will envy.

Today’s camping gear/glamping equipment has been engineered with hipsters and city dwellers in mind. Sure, you can choose the traditional wellies or pinch some London street style in wedged Wellies.

The important thing with glamping fashion is to remember that it is all about freedom of expression. You can choose what ever clothes that make you feel happy – Leather shorts, over-the-knee socks, striped nautical T-shirts and slim anorak jackets or rain coats will take a beating, but still look great when paired with a sloppy fishtail braid or loads of leather bracelets.

Remember, it doesn’t matter what your size or shape, the boho, hippi look is all about freedom, so if you want to keep your legs covered, or wear a cardigan, then do so and do it with pride!

Guys will look great in slim khaki pants cuffed mid-calf and a paper-thin V-neck shirt. If the climate is cooler, colored skinny jeans will suffice.

A healthy dose of aviator sunglasses will keep campers looking chic and harmonious.

Remember when mom and dad got the big tent and banished you to a tiny dome? Well, you’ve earned the big tent, baby, and maybe even an upgrade to a yurt.

The ease of the yurt’s Asian design allows for high ceilings, “windows” all around and a bohemian ambiance worthy of some Moroccan poufs for seating and a deluxe air mattress for sleeping.

If a tent is still more your speed, you might want to get a brightly colored one that comes with electricity hookup for charging phones or adding lighting.

If you never got that scout badge for learning to make your own fire, you might want to try a portable gel fireplace. You can’t cook over it, but it can be easily moved anywhere you like, including on the end of a dock.

You can also take advantage of great solar string lights and lanterns to make your camping area cozy.

A glamping equipment essential, the portable barbecue, will give you all the power you need for cooking dinners and you can pack a cute retro tea kettle or dishes to up the glam factor.

To round out any trip, be sure to get some colorful ethnic quilts for both sleeping and lounging in the grass.
