THANKSGIVING: TRADITION WITH A TWIST! TURKEY WONTONS, BAMBOO-SMOKED SESAME NOODLESHow did our Thanksgiving menu end up featuring cold sesame noodles, ghost pepper hot wings, turkey wontons, toasted ravioli, onion rings, turkey oven-roasted and turkey deep-fried, Wana’s hamburger stuffing, wild cranberry and orange sauce, pumpkin muffins and chocolate-butterscotch fondue?

It started with this sweet email from our 12 year old niece:

“I cannot wait for Thanksgiving this year! Our Mexican Thanksgiving last year was so much fun, I loved the burritos, tacos, nachos, Grandma’s pie, and especially that delicious desert you made (the pastry puff with honey on top!), I hope you make it this year too. And none of my other friends have Thanksgivings similar to these EVER!

“So, what do you think we’re going to do this year? There are three options:  Chinese, Italian, or traditional. Chinese seems fun because they have lots of different exotic foods such as dumplings, sushi, fried noodles, rice, shrimp, lots of soy sauce and steamed vegetables, and that noodle-chicken-vegetable dish you had the last time you came (too bad Brendan hates it after he got sick by it the next day). Not to mention their unique culture that has LOTS of craft ideas, such as paper lanterns, origami, and dragons. The only thing bad is that it will be really hard to cook and Ryan hates Chinese food, so I’m not too sure about it.

“And there’s also another option of Italian, there are lots of different and easy-to-cook foods such as pasta, meatballs, ravioli, lasagna, chicken parmesan, not to mention pizza- especially Emos’s! [Imo's] There aren’t too many crafting ideas for this one, besides lots of chef hats and aprons, maybe some Italian flags and but I look more into it after we decide.  Plus Ryan LOVES pizza, so it’s a pretty good option.

“And the last option- traditional. So I’m not really a big fan of this option; but this year we won’t be having a traditional Thanksgiving with my Mom’s side, so my Dad thought that you might want to have a traditional Thanksgiving. The idea is okay with me, because we can add a little bit of diversity to the meal (maybe some recipes from Spectacularly Delicious?) and just traditional Thanksgiving craft ideas are always a good option. Honestly, I cannot decide between Italian and regular- what do you guys think?”
