Telenovela Ready with Mary Kay and Arranque De Pasión

By Verybusymama @verybusymama
It's impossible to grow up in a Chilean or any Hispanic household without experiencing a telenova (Spanish language soap operas).
Sometimes my mother was really into one and of course we all had to watch it, and other times the entire family would watch one and we were not allowed to speak when it was on — seriously! (hello, Betty la Fea and Muñeca Brava).
But what it comes down to are the actors and what they look like — perfectly gorgeous women and a strapping tall, dark, handsome galán, or leading man who is always the epitome of a true latin lover. There isn't a single unattractive person and every woman has incredible hair and pristine makeup. Growing up it was this first thing I noticed — their beautiful lip color and eyeshadow. Anytime I have talked about telenovelas with non-Hispanic friends they always say "those women are gorgeous and they have the most perfect makeup!" True true.
Mary Kay is the official sponsor of Univision.com's webnovela, Arranque de Pasion. I was asked to try out one of the character's looks — and I was sent everything I need to re-create Ela's style who is played by Kate del Castillo.

To make sure I would be ready for my close up (ha!) I watched this video by celebrity makeup artist Luis Casco explaining just how to get the perfect novela look!
So taking advantage of the fact that I had somewhere to go (other than the playground) and people to see today I took out everything I needed to get Ela's contouring look and got to work...

The look is a bit darker than I am used to for myself, especially the Mineral Bronzing Powder, but I stayed on the lighter side.
I started with the Foundation Primer, then used the Facial Highlighting Pen (love this!) especially under the eyes. After that I applied eyeshadow and mascara and then I did a double take when I saw the lip liner. Really? Wow, I hadn't seen those since....a long time! I think my mamá used to use them.
Anyway, I did a quick outline of the lips then finished off the look with gloss. And in true novela style, I used hairspray to accentuate the light waves in my hair and pinned one side back.
What do you think — am I novela ready?

My very own pint-sized galán said "mami te vez muy linda"/ "mami you look very pretty." He noticed the mini-makeover too!
And as a long time fan of the super sexy Puerto Rican actor/singer Carlos Ponce I highly recommend you check out Arranque de Pasión, La Historia de Ela.

No need to speak the language! Just focus on him — I promise you won't be sorry.
¡besos!
