SUSTO shared their country roots with the Emerald City last Friday night at Seattle’s Tractor Tavern. Other bands on the bill included a local rock opener called Grey Waves and Georgia folk rockers Futurebirds as the headliner.

After releasing a self titled album in 2014, SUSTO have been playing shows on the road and gracing fans nationwide with their rambling jams. Friday’s performance featured a handful of warm, southern tunes steeped in traditional bluesy folk melodies. If you’ve never heard SUSTO before, one of the most captivating qualities of this band is the songwriting — pure, honest and good. Lead singer Justin Osborne sings with a kind of youthful optimism that makes you forget you’re listening to a sob story. Overall, SUSTO’s 10 song set list included a variety of upbeat tunes that definitely did not disappoint. The set ended with crowd favorite “Dream Girl” and a rocking performance of “Cigarettes Whiskey & Wine”.

Closing out the night, Futurebirds took the stage and delivered a fantastic performance full of nostalgic rock guitar riffs and slick steel lap guitar melodies. Their brand of rock featured a neo-psych-folk style that was both refreshing and familiar. The set also featured a fantastic layering of echoing vocal harmonies and drum beats that had everyone dancing along. Currently on tour promoting their latest album, Hotel Parties, Futurebirds is definitely not one to miss.
