7.4 Sur le Fil, 9, rue Leopold Robert in the 14th, 09.83.70.36.19 (but reservations and 20% off the carte via La Fourchette) closed Mondays, but Brunch weekends (Metro: Vavin) is a place that has been beckoning to me for months and I now kick myself for not going before. It's understated, the sign says "Restaurant Philanthrope," which made me wonder which way the money would flow but the menu (22 E I think) and carte from a young, indeed, very young, chef ex-Itineraire, looked mighty good. And the wines while a bit over-priced were able to be pickedoutable.
My friends, newly married, (after 80 zillion years together) both chose the superb avocado, grapefruit, daikon and crab salad and I had three lovely scallops on top of a portion of poitrine de porc with little slices of pickled onion that I tried unsuccessfully and selfishly to hide from them, but alas, they spotted my perfidious intent and we all "ooo'd and ahhh'd."
For mains, JJ chose the cod, which I thought was rather boring, albeit with good veggies and sauce, and R. and I had the joues de boeuf with a mango/mustard sauce (how about that?) and fat "not crispy enough on the outside" frites.
To terminate we sort of shared an assortment of cheeses with a big salad, an "exotic" vacherin and a most unusual pentapartite Paris-Brest.
Our bill, with the 20% off food items and 2 bottles and 2 glasses of wine (hey it was a wedding celebration), no bottled water, good bread and one coffee amounted to a little under 100 E a couple.
Go? Definately ASAP. This fil is no tightrope.
