A model for preachers
On Monday night, political commentator Ann Coulter gave vent to her feelings on the US Presidential race with the following tweet:
I highly approve of Romney’s decision to be kind and gentle to the retard.

Twenty Four hours later, John Franklin Stephen, a Special Olympics Athlete, produced his response. It is full of:
- Honesty ‘it has taken me all day to figure out how to respond to your use of the R-word last night.’
- Incisive comment ‘as everyone else races from one snarkey sound bite to the next.’
- Pride of the best sort ‘Ms. Coulter, you, and society, need to learn that being compared to people like me should be considered a badge of honor.’
Anyone who communicates for a living, and preachers especially, should read the open letter in full here, and take a leaf out of Mr Stephen’s book, I think.
Here is surely the finest example of Solomon’s words that a ‘gentle word turns away wrath’.
