Happy Sunday!!

Speaking of the end of summer, Tuesday was our last day of babysitting for my friend. Her son has charmed the entire family in the few hours we watched him each week. Holly would cuddle with him, and Connor would play peek-a-boo; seriously, there is nothing better than watching your kids grow comfortable with babies. Jim had a blast taking him for long walks with the dog, as the two “chatted” about the scenery. Tallulah in particular is going to miss him because he learned quickly that dropping food on the floor meant feeding the doggy. We got to see him take his first steps and discover the cool drawer with all of the metal bakeware he could use as musical instruments. I am happy that we could help her out this summer and know that it will not be the last time we babysit for her. It means for now our focus turns towards school and homework and those daily battles once again.

Wednesday was supposed to be Connor’s first cross-country meet of the season as well as his last home meet. Thanks to some torrential rains during the day and some high schools hesitant to make the drive in light of sketchy weather, the meet was cancelled. However, his coach made sure the team got to run and that we were still able to celebrate all 17 of this year’s seniors, Connor included. It was a bittersweet experience, but I am happy to report that I did not shed a single tear. It was fun to see him among the team’s leaders, recognizing his fellow teammates and their achievements. It was not the first time I was struck by what a strong leader he is, and it will not be the last. The whole event was fun, and I look forward to the rest of the season even more now.

Remember all of that crap I was giving Jim about his cold? Yeah, karma. I came down with it on Wednesday, and while I did not stay home to suffer in bed for the day, I can see the appeal. Thankfully, it takes more than a cold to fell me, and I am on the mend.

This weekend is all about get-togethers with friends. The friend we had living with us for May hosted a thank you barbecue last night, to which the kids and Jim went down the Illinois border to attend (I stayed home due to my cold only because our friend’s wife is pregnant and there is nothing worse than having a cold while pregnant). It sounds like everyone had a wonderful time. Today, we are hosting friends who are moving to another state next week. It will be a bittersweet time but should hold lots of laughter and fun.

On the site for the past week, here is what I posted in case you missed them the first time:

School starts for the kids on Thursday. They are already dreading the early mornings, the homework, and the fact that they cannot stay at home lounging around the house all day. Meanwhile, Jim and I are ready for them to have some structure to their days again. I like the fact that thanks to Wisconsin laws not having public schools start until September, the kids only have two days this week and another short week next week thanks to Labor Day. It should make the transition a bit easier for all of us. I hope.

With that, I have to get ready for tonight and prep for the work week. I hope everyone is having a relaxing Sunday doing whatever makes them happy. Have a great week, and I’ll see you here next week!
